Carrots are good for the liver because of the beta-carotene and plant flavonoids that are present in them. Both of the aforementioned elements facilitate liver function and do not let toxicity take over the liver.
Carrot: Carrots contain carotenoids called beta-carotene, which help keep the liver healthy. Carotenoids are fat-soluble, which stimulate bile to flow and remove liver toxicity.
Cruciferous vegetables
If you love broccoli, you're in luck. This cruciferous vegetable — along with cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and mustard greens — are good for your liver. They are a source of fiber, which supports liver health.
They are a source of antioxidants
Since carrots are water-soluble, they are an excellent carrier of toxins and help flush them out of the body.
They help your heart. First, all those antioxidants are also good for your heart. Second, the potassium in carrots can help keep your blood pressure in check. And third, they have fiber, which can help you stay at a healthy weight and lower your chances of heart disease.
Further, studies confirm the vegetable has a prebiotic role, which means carrot fibre is a good source of fuel for the beneficial bacteria that reside in the gut. Many of these gut bacteria produce short chain fatty acids which have benefits not only for the gut but for our wider health too.
According to some studies, 51 mg of chlorine and 11 mg of sulfur in 100 grams size of tomato have a vital role in detoxification process. We know that natural chlorine works in stimulating the liver and its function for filtering and detoxifying body wastes. Sulfur in tomatoes protects the liver from cirrhosis, too.
Avocados are another example of foods good for liver function. They're high in healthy fats and contain unique chemicals that reduce and slow down liver damage. Avocados are packed with glutathione, which helps get rid of harmful toxins in the body.
We recommend the Mediterranean diet to our liver patients. The Mediterranean diet is everything you would expect a dietitian to recommend – more fruits and veggies, more whole grains, more nuts and legumes, lean meats, less red meat and less sweets/added sugars.
French fries, wafers, burgers, and pizzas do no good to your liver. These food items are high in saturated fat or trans-fat content and are difficult to digest. In other words, your liver needs to work hard to process these food items.
Eggs. Many don't know that eggs are a food that's good for fatty liver. This is because eggs are rich in choline, which plays a role in transporting and lowering LDL or “bad” cholesterol.
Look for “whole grain,” “whole wheat,” “sprouted grain,” and “high fiber” on package labels. Choose foods with at least three grams of dietary fiber and fewer than eight grams of sugar per serving.
Is it okay to eat carrots every day? Eating carrots in moderation is good for your health. Eating carrots in excess, however, can cause a condition called carotenemia. This refers to yellowish discoloration of the skin because of the deposition of a substance called beta-carotene that is present in carrots.
Ideally, you should not consume more than 1 or 2 carrots in a day. Try to have a balanced diet by adding other vegetables and food types to get a whole mix of important nutrients needed by the body.
Carrots provide more antioxidants when boiled or steamed than when eaten raw, according to a January 2008 report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. In fact, researchers found that boiling carrots until tender increased the concentration of carotenoids by 14 percent.
