Abstract. There are large variations of size among humans but in all populations, men are larger on average than women. For most biologists this fact can be easily explained by the same processes that explain the size dimorphism in large mammals in general and in apes in particular.
That's when it became clear to her that “women are shorter than men because most of them have ovaries.” Ovaries matter because they produce a lot more estrogen than testes do, and estrogen helps direct bone development. “In all human skeletons, a lot of estrogen stimulates long bone growth,” Dunsworth explained.
In the United States, adult males are on average 9% taller and 16.5% heavier than adult females. Males typically have larger tracheae and branching bronchi, with about 30 percent greater lung volume per body mass.
Male mammals have long been said to be larger than females – a phenomenon known as sexual dimorphism – but it turns out that may not be the norm. An analysis of the body mass of over 400 mammal species revealed that only about 44 per cent had larger males.
Until puberty, muscle size is about the same among boys and girls, but after puberty men grow a lot more muscle. This is partially due to higher levels of testosterone and other androgens, but also because their muscles are more responsive to androgens, which is a result of genetics.
A new study shows that when women exercise, their body processes oxygen a lot faster than men's. This indicates superior aerobic fitness, explain the researchers. In other words, women may be naturally fitter than men.
Women generally have a higher percentage of body fat than men. Also, women store more fat in the gluteal-femoral region, whereas men store more fat in the visceral (abdominal) depot.
Summary: In most animals, females are larger than males, but in most mammals, males are larger than females.
Genetic determination
During reproduction, the male contributes either an X sperm or a Y sperm, while the female always contributes an X egg. A Y sperm and an X egg produce a male, while an X sperm and an X egg produce a female.
On average, women have less total muscle mass than men, both in absolute and relative terms. The differences in lean body mass between the sexes appear sometime during puberty and remain throughout our lives.
Hormones may play a role in women having more pain sensitivity. In addition, women have greater nerve density (more nerves in a given area of the body)—which may cause women to feel pain more severely than men. In addition, women's psychological experience of pain differs from men's in certain ways.
Answer and Explanation: Women are shorter than males because of high levels of estrogen and low levels of testosterone inside their bodies. Testosterone in males promotes the growth of long bones, whereas estrogen in females stops the growth of long bones by helping in the fusion of the epiphyseal plate.
Hormonal differences
The difference between men and women in hormones is testosterone and estrogen. Testosterone increases everything from size and mass of the muscle to the male skeletal. Whereas estrogen in women body keep the muscle mass in check, making them lighter and more flexible.
Genetics Suggest Modern Female Came First.
All human individuals—whether they have an XX, an XY, or an atypical sex chromosome combination—begin development from the same starting point. During early development the gonads of the fetus remain undifferentiated; that is, all fetal genitalia are the same and are phenotypically female.
Pandora and Eve
Just like Pandora in ancient Greece, Eve was known as the first woman on earth in Hebrew history. Even the creation of the two women is similar: Pandora was made of earth and water and Eve was from the rib of Adam, the first man on earth, who was in his turn made of slay.
While women were more connected to nature and tended to prefer outdoor environments to recreate, they were less likely than men to engage in NBR. These relationships were consistent across both countries, raising concerns about gender equity in the outdoors that transcend geographical and cultural contexts.
The phenomenon of sexual dimorphism is a direct product of evolution by natural selection, in that the struggle for reproductive success drives many male and female organisms down different evolutionary paths. This can produce forms of dimorphism which, on the face of it, would actually seem to disadvantage organisms.
Females hyenas are larger and stronger than males, and direct where the groups go. Typically, hungry lactating females take the lead, followed by youngsters and males. Female hyena leadership is important during clan wars, when groups battle it out, usually over territory.
Stomach size was affected by sex, BMI, and age. The men had longer stomachs than the women. The GC of the stomach was affected more by BMI and was significantly longer in the patients with more severe obesity.
Upon analysis, it was found that while men took an average of 42 seconds to adapt and switch into the workout mode, women were able to do the same in lesser time, around 30 seconds. Women consistently outperformed men with around 30 percent faster oxygen handling throughout the body.
Surprisingly, the same study also states that 45 per cent of women prefer men with a little chubbiness or simply the average male body over an extremely muscular one. Many might argue that some do like the latter and so, only 2.5 per cent of women had favoured the lean, muscular type.
