In addition, your hips also need to widen to provide an easier exit down the birth canal during delivery. After pregnancy, however, your ribs and hips may not shift back to where they used to be. "Some women report that even after getting back to pre-baby weight, the shape of their body has changed," Dr. Ghodsi said.
It's safe to say growing and birthing a baby does “some things” to the body. And while many of those changes are temporary, like strange skin conditions experienced during pregnancy, some may be more permanent, like altered DNA.
With the onset of puberty, the male pelvis remains on the same developmental trajectory, while the female pelvis develops in an entirely new direction, becoming wider and reaching its full width around the age of 25-30 years. From the age of 40 onward, the female pelvis then begins to narrow again.
What skin changes can happen after giving birth? You may have stretch marks on your belly where your skin stretched during pregnancy. Some women also get them on their thighs, hips and bottom. They may not disappear after giving birth, but they do fade over time.
"During pregnancy, very often a woman's activity and nutrition levels go down," says OB-GYN Michael Dawson, M.D., of Atlanta Women's Specialists. "These factors mean you gain weight. The extra fat then gets distributed to places where women most often put on weight: the backside, hips, and thighs."
Gaining weight in buttocks during pregnancy
The hips and buttocks are the number one place where women store most of their fat. Whenever there is weight gain it tends to go 'straight to the hips'. This also occurs with pregnancy weight gain. Pregnant women aren't just growing a baby inside their bodies.
Widening of the hip bones occurs as part of the female pubertal process, and sex hormones in females (estrogens) cause a widening of the pelvis as a part of sexual differentiation. Hence females generally have wider hips, permitting childbirth.
"Women's hips are already wider than men's to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal,” says Dr. Tran. “During pregnancy, hormones [loosen] the joints and ligaments around the birth canal to make the passage larger and more flexible. This natural process contributes to the overall widening of the hips.”
But the main reason for girls' hips to grow after marriage is their physical relationship. When all girls have sexual relations with their husbands after marriage, it causes hormonal changes in their body. It also affects other organs like their waist and hips. After marriage, women's hips gradually begin to grow.

The main reason for this is the change in hormones. During pregnancy, the body produces much more oestrogen and progesterone, which increase blood flow to the skin. The increased blood flow provides the skin with more nutrients, which helps to keep it healthy and plump.

Your postpartum belly won't instantly go back to how it was before you were pregnant – it's a process that can take months or even years, while some bellies may take on a different shape permanently. Some moms may experience a bulge caused by diastasis recti, a separation of the abdominal muscles during pregnancy.
Let's bust this myth. There are no such things as birthing hips. All hips belonging to birthing people are birthing hips in the sense that they will be present during a birth, but your hip width does not determine your ability to birth or the manner in which you birth.

Women experience intense hormonal changes during pregnancy. They can feel happy, excited and beautiful for five minutes, and then switch to feeling unattractive, angry, and moody for the next hour.
We all do tend to fatten up with age, although there are interesting differences based on age and gender. Hormones drive the deposition of fat around the pelvis, buttocks, and thighs of women and the bellies of men.
