Choose File, point to Open With, and then select Preview. Or, to open photos in iCloud Drive, click iCloud Drive in the Finder sidebar, and then double-click a photo to open it. Go to File and select Export. Next, go to the Format menu and choose JPG as the new file format for the selected photos.
Go to Settings on your iPhone. Tap Camera. You will be shown some options like Formats, Grid, Preserve Settings, and Camera Mode. Tap Formats, and change the format from High Efficiency to Most Compatible.

If you have a macOS Monetary, you don't need to use any app to convert HEIC images to JPG format. Right-click on the HEIC photos you wish to convert and select Convert Image from the Quick Actions menu, and you'll be able to convert it into JPG format.

JPGs and JPEGs are the same file format. JPG and JPEG both stand for Joint Photographic Experts Group and are both raster image file types. The only reason JPG is three characters long as opposed to four is that early versions of Windows required a three-letter extension for file names.

You don't need to convert HEIC (HEIF) to JPEG even if you really care about image quality, because it is the same in both formats. And the constant conversion of images from one format to another loses its quality. But there are cases where converting HEIC → JPEG makes sense, so we'll tell you how.
