The reality is that unless you started collecting the coloured $2 coins in 2012, you are unlikely to find anything that has much value. It is possible to find the odd needle in the haystack, but it's uncommon that you're coloured $2 coin has any significant value.
There's actually been so many coloured releases in the last 4 years that the actual values of the coins don't seem to vary too much at all regardless of the design or colour. Find one in circulation and pop it up onto eBay and you'll likely get anywhere from $2-$5 for it.
"The market has been hot for these two $2 coins, which are the lowest minted coloured circulating $2 coins in Australian history," he said. A $2 coloured Red Poppy coin with a red poppy on it is now selling for between $150 to $370. An uncirculated Red Poppy is currently on sale on eBay for $850.
With a slightly higher mintage of 995,000, the value of the 2013 Purple Coronation $2 coin has has shot up to $75 to $180. "The coin collecting market is absolutely crazy right now," Mr Kandiah said. A money expert has revealed a tiny detail on a gold $2 coin dating back 10 years that can be worth a fortune today. Commerce teacher Joel Kandiah, otherwise known as The History of Money on TikTok, said a 2012 gold coin featuring a red poppy can be worth as much as $180.
“It has a lower mintage than the most valuable coloured $2 coin, the Mars $2 coin from the 2018 Planetary Series collection, which is currently valued at around $4,000.”
Mr Kandiah tells us that these 2 coins are amongst the rarest ever minted in Australia with only 503,000 of The 2012 Red Poppy and a slightly larger 995,000 minted 2013 Purple Coronation $2 coins. So don't walk, run, to check your coin stash where ever that may be!

At the time of writing, one of the 60,000 uncirculated coins was selling for as high as A$36 – but that's not the only sting in the tail of this commemorative release.
The original red poppy coins were released in 2012, Mr Kandiah said, and had a mintage of 503,000 – 40,902 of which were C-mintmarked. In 2018, for the 30th anniversary of the $2 coin set, another version was released with a mintage of 30,000, he said.

These coins are considered more as a collectible item than an investment. They may hold some value as a collectible, but their value is likely to appreciate less over time. Colorized and layered coins have existed for centuries, but altering coins for decorative purposes has become more popular recently.
There is a very small and selective market for colorized coins. Most colorized coins with state flags, painted backgrounds, glow-in-the-dark paint, or holographic material have almost no resale value compared to the price they were bought at.
"The 1930 penny is considered a numismatic superstar, with its value only rising and its significance deeply established in Australian history, a once by-product of economic depression is now a symbol of prosperity, the ultimate cherry on top for any coin collector," Mr Hames said.

Because these coins are part of a special anniversary release, they typically are valued slightly higher than their legal face value of 2 pounds. They fetch roughly 2.7-3 pounds for a typical coin in circulated condition.
Unfortunately, a very common mistake is that people think that all 2p coins are valuable. The fact is that only the error issue 1983 coins and 1971 coins are the ones that can fetch you some money. In most cases, the estimated value is around $600.

Longwood uses a growing technique to force the blue-poppies to flower every year in March. The cultivar, “Lingholm,” produces large flowers that average 4 inches in diameter. “Meconopsis” is the genus of the rare flower. The blue-poppy is so unusual it was once considered a myth.

A list of valuable 50c Australian coins is fairly short - most are only worth their face value unless they are in premium grade. One of the first 50 cent piece designs that many people notice in their change are the fifty cent coins struck for the Centenary of Federation - there is one for each state and territory.
