Nearly all of those recruited were from Slytherin House. However there may have been recruits from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and even from foreign schools within the ranks as well. There were presumably no Hufflepuff Death Eaters (Hufflepuff House boasted of being the only house never to produce any Dark Wizards).
In the world of Harry Potter as we know it, there are no recorded instances of a person who was sorted into Hufflepuff ever becoming a Death Eater, or any other kind of Dark Wizard for that matter.

The Heir of Hufflepuff was none other than Cedric Diggory, who was well on his way to fulfilling the prophecy of the Heir of Hufflepuff when he was tragically murdered by Peter Pettigrew. Thus, the prophecy would remain unfulfilled forever.

Yes, Hufflepuff dark wizards likely exist. In an interview, JKR confirms that there are people connected with Death Eaters in the houses other than Slytherin, and does not in any way attempt to specifically exclude Hufflepuff.
If there was a group in the Harry Potter universe that is the exact opposite of the Death Eaters, it would have to be the Order of the Phoenix, led by Albus Dumbledore. The Order of the Phoenix's main goal was to stop Voldemort, and by extension, his Death Eaters, at all costs.
All Death Eaters must be proficient in the Dark Arts: murder, Unforgivable Curses, yodeling etc. An annual examination will be made to make sure that all members are up to scratch. No Death Eater shall behave with integrity unless it is a genuine accident. A Death Eater must be pureblooded.

The Head of Slytherin is Horace Slughorn (who left the role to Severus Snape for fifteen years before taking it up again in 1996) and the House's patron ghost is the Bloody Baron.
If Harry had been placed in Slytherin, it would have altered his path drastically. It's doubtful, for example, that he would have developed such a strong friendship with Ron and Hermione. Although that's not to say that he would have got on with Draco Malfoy, either. He was, after all, the worst.
