Norfolk Island is the only non-mainland Australian territory to have achieved self-governance. The Norfolk Island Act 1979, passed by the Parliament of Australia in 1979, is the Act under which the island is governed.
As of September 2022, the force has a strength of 1,921 police constables, and as of March 2022, 179 special constables, 1,226 police staff/designated officers, and 100 police support volunteers. The chief constable is currently Paul Sanford, and the police and crime commissioner is Giles Orpen-Smellie (Conservative).
Norfolk Constabulary employs approximately 1490 police officers, 1400 members of police staff, and 252 Special Constables.

Medical treatment on Norfolk Island is covered by Australian Medicare, emergency medical treatment will be covered by Medicare. Please bring your Medicare, Pensioner, and/or Healthcare cards with you to the island.
Shopping on Norfolk Island. Norfolk Island is a duty-free and GST-free shopping haven where you'll find over 50 stores selling everything from sporting goods and imported shoes to cosmetics, jewellery and artwork.
Do I need a passport? A valid passport is the preferred means of documentation; however, photographic identification such as a driver licence is acceptable for visitors from Australia.
Norfolk Island Hospital
2.2 The Hospital is a 24 bed facility which employs 30 full-time administrative, medical and domestic staff.
You are allowed to bring any food items onto the island except for fresh fruit and vegetables. Sometimes grocery items can be a little expensive on the Island due to the freight costs involved so pack some of the things you eat regularly at home. There is no Coles or Woolies or Aldi on the Island.
Norfolk Island is a very safe place to visit. There are no snakes on the island, and most of our spiders are harmless (even the big ones).

The main geographical area of responsibilities, the Metropolitan Police District, consists of the 32 London boroughs, but does not include the City of London proper – the central financial district – which is policed by a separate force, the City of London Police.
