In other situations, the Master sought out the student, being guided by the will of the dark side of the Force. Sith apprentices were analogous to Jedi Padawans, and the relationship between Sith Master and apprentice was the analog to Jedi Knight and Padawan.
A Sith apprentice was a Force-sensitive individual trained by a Sith Master to use the dark side of the Force. The age at which a Sith apprentice began their training varied. Darth Maul became apprenticed to Darth Sidious while still a child.
Also known as Sith Lords, the Rule of Two gave both master and apprentice to use the moniker. Count Dooku's apprentices were called Dark Acolytes and Sith Acolytes during the Clone Wars. Before Darth Bane reformed the Sith under the Rule of Two, many Sith apprentices were known as Acolytes.
Unlike the Jedi, Star Wars' Sith don't start training until adulthood, but that doesn't make them any less powerful. In Star Wars, the Sith didn't take any children for apprentices after the fall of the Sith Empire.
The Rule of Two created a powerful dynamic by limiting the Sith to only one master and one apprentice at a time, although not all Sith followed the rule as some took apprentices of their own while still serving a master.
A dark side warrior with a mysterious past, Kylo Ren was neither Jedi nor Sith, but a product of both sides' teachings. Once an apprentice of Luke Skywalker's, he killed his fellow students and drove Skywalker into exile, becoming a First Order warlord and servant of Supreme Leader Snoke.
Galen Marek, codenamed Starkiller, was the son of a Jedi fugitive killed by Vader during the Great Jedi Purge. After his father's death, he was trained by Vader since childhood to become the Sith Lord's secret apprentice.
Sidious broke the Rule of Two at least twice: once by training Darth Maul while still under the tutelage of Darth Plagueis; and secondly, by taking on two apprentices at once, and in the form of two Jedi: Count Dooku, the former Padawan of the legendary Jedi Master Yoda, dubbed Darth Tyranus, and the Fosh Jedi Vergere.
Yoda held the title of Grand Master of the Jedi Order since the days of the High Republic Era. At some point, Yoda took on a human named Kantam Sy as his Padawan. The two were stationed at the Jedi Temple on the planet Endovar.
The term "Sith Lord" generally encompassed members of both sexes, although some female Sith such as Lumiya, Tahiri Veila, Olaris Rhea, and Vestara Khai were styled Sith Lady.
As part of the Rule of Two, Bane took on an apprentice, Darth Zannah, to whom he passed on his teachings. Zannah escaped the notice of the Jedi Order.
Master of Darth Sidious
Darth Sidious was the secret persona of Sheev Palpatine and the Sith apprentice of Darth Plagueis. The time period of when Plagueis came to possess his Sith apprentice was unknown, but the Dark Lord chose Sheev Palpatine, a human from Naboo, as his apprentice.
According to Darth Sidious, the purpose of Sith training was to force the apprentice to struggle for every scrap of knowledge he/she attained. Conversely, the master withheld as much as possible for as long as possible, the goal being to prolong their own life for as long as possible.
The members of this organization became known as Imperial Knights, and were considered to be Gray Jedi by the Jedi Order. The Imperial Knights served the Empire for three generations.
Ahsoka Tano, a Togruta female, was the Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker and a hero of the Clone Wars. Alongside Anakin, she grew from headstrong student into a mature leader.
There are dozens of canon Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Opposing them stand the canonical servants of the Dark Side of the Force: The Sith. While many Sith Lords are mentioned, only six are detailed in canon: Bane, Plagueis, Sidious, Maul, Tyranus, and Vader.

The Sith remained hidden for a millennium, allowing the Jedi to believe that their ancient nemesis had gone extinct. The Sith stayed in hiding for a thousand years, their survival unknown to the Jedi, as they continued their revenge against the Jedi through Bane's Grand Plan.
Apprentice of the Dark Lord
Under Sidious's tutelage, Maul trained as a Sith apprentice, Sith warrior, and Sith assassin, eventually being given the title "Darth Maul." For years, Darth Maul was trained to become a weapon of the Sith.
Anakin then pledges himself to the dark side as Palpatine's Sith apprentice, Darth Vader. Palpatine issues Order 66, commanding the clone troopers to turn on their Jedi generals, while dispatching Vader to kill everyone inside the Jedi Temple and then murder the Separatist leaders on the planet Mustafar.
As the first Dark Lord of the Sith, Ajunta Pall founded the first Sith Empire and expanded it onto other worlds. The Sith took over the planet Ziost and created it as their capital and as Pall's new home. Pall eventually died after serving the Empire for many decades, but his Empire lived on.
