Over the years, scientists have identified four broad temperaments under which a person might fall. There is no exact science to it, and some people identify with more than one type of temperament.
To further elaborate, every person is a “blend” of all four temperaments. You may be a Choleric-Melancholy-Sanguine-Phlegmatic. Or perhaps a Sanguine-Choleric-Phlegmatic-Melancholy.
The four temperaments described individuals as sanguine (optimistic, social, and associated with the element of air), melancholic (analytical, quiet, earth), choleric (short-tempered, irritable, fire), and phlegmatic (relaxed, peaceful, water) (Buckingham, 2002).
The four types of temperament are melancholic, choleric, sanguine, and phlegmatic. Most people are said to contain a mix of these personality types, as each person would also have a mix of physical components within the body.
Choleric: This is the rarest temperament, especially for women. People who fall into this group are more task-oriented than people oriented; they're driven by results. Most Cholerics are confident, independent, and like to work alone rather than in a group.
A positive attitude, a balanced extroversion and confidence have been revealed as the most attractive traits. Psychologists have revealed these three personality qualities not only make someone more attractive to the opposite sex but also prove they can get on with anyone.
A melancholy sanguine personality is a mix of both the melancholic and sanguine personality in one person. Since it's a mix, the individual will have the traits of both personalities. The melancholic is a thoughtful individual that may often be anxious but typically try to attain perfection by every means possible.
Cholerics are of the opinion and belief that they know what is best for those around them, and what is acceptable behavior according to them. They have a severe problem with anger; “the angry temperament”. Cholerics have a tendency to seldom express other emotions such as love, tenderness, warmth and compassion.
When the Choleric and the Melancholy tendencies are combined, it produces a result-oriented, detailed person, who plans and pushes their way through life. The Choleric-Melancholy is more detail oriented and sensitive than the other Choleric combinations.
The more outgoing and optimistic you are, the longer you may live, a new study suggests.
Each child is born with a unique “temperament.” Temperament is the way we approach and respond to the world. Some children warm up quickly in social situations, while others are more cautious. Children can also be persistent or easily agitated, or easy going, jumping right in to explore their world.
Choleric. Let's say, among the list of temperament styles, Choleric is the rarest one. And interestingly, females of this category are again most rare.
The Arno's two groundbreaking findings led to the introduction of the fifth temperament – the Supine* – into the ancient 4-type model that many assumed would never be redefined.

These people often have high logical-mathematical intelligence and are good with logical reasoning and analysis. They also handle numbers easily. Problem-solving is a simple process, and complex theories make sense.
People who overthink tend to score high in the neurotic department. Neuroticism is one of the five big personality traits, along with openness, conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness. It's linked to anxiety, fear, moodiness, worry, envy and frustration.
According to the MBTI® Manual ENTJs are the type least likely to suppress anger and least likely to show anger.
For example, highly intense people can be attracted to people who seem calm. While low intensity individuals tend to be attracted to people who are energized and bring forth what they lack. The two polar opposites tend to avoid each other, but it's a natural attraction to find someone that fills those "little" gaps.
Sanguine types are often popular and well-liked. They are social, creative, fun, confident, and very talkative extroverts. Everyone loves a Yellow. Sanguine people love adventure, risk-taking, and new experiences.
The Melancholic-dominated spouse happens to be the best among spouses. This is because their temperament is the richest of all the temperaments. Spouses that belong in this category are usually very analytical, self-sacrificing, and gifted perfectionists whose emotions are also very sensitive.
A person may have good manners, but their insecurity does not let them be at peace. Often their insecurity will pour out and take the form of envy or jealousy. “A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity.”
Research has indicated that individuals with high emotional reactivity (high neuroticism) and introverted tendencies (low extroversion) are more likely to experience anxiety than other personality types [101].
Melancholic individuals are typically calm and quiet, despite their powerful internal emotions. They often choose to hide their feelings, preferring to maintain their calm and quiet demeanor even during events that typically elicit extreme joy or anger in others.
ISFJ: Soft-spoken
Although you are usually quite popular, you are also seen as the shy, sweet one (Rory from Gilmore Girls is an ISFJ, for example).
