They have bigger things to deal with like biting a bear on the face or chasing it up a goddamn tree. In a zoo, a wolverine once killed a polar bear by latching onto its throat and holding on until its much larger foe died.
Wolverines are amazingly tough for their size. But therein lies the rub; a large wolverine weighs 50 pounds, and a Polar bear can weigh over 1000 pounds, twenty times bigger (!). Assuming a Polar bear ever did encounter a wolverine in the wild, it would most likely kill the wolverine and eat it.
Adult polar bears have no natural predators, though walruses and wolves can kill them.
A bear would beat a wolverine in a fight by using its size and more effective attacks. Although some people have surmised that wolverines could attack a bear's jugular vein and tear it open to kill it, that's very unlikely.
Throughout the year, wolverines feed on small and medium-sized animals such as voles, squirrels, snowshoe hares, and birds. In the right situations, wolverines can kill moose, Dall sheep or caribou, but these occurrences are rare.
Wolverines don't have too many predators. They are extremely strong for their size. They also make deep growls and rumbles that sound ferocious. The sounds help to scare away large predators, but wolverines are sometimes killed by wolves, bears or mountain lions.
Although the wolverine is known to have a thick hide, wolverines have been recorded killed by North American porcupine quills in a number of instances. Now let's look at the honey badger. Other than its willingness to fight to the bitter end, the honey badger's defenses are fourfold.
However, grizzly bears are tougher than polar bears as they possess stronger and longer claws and an elongated skull with sharp and long canines that can completely separate the flesh from bone.
With their powerful bodies and fierce nature, grizzly bears would win a fight against a pack of wolverines. A grizzly bear would win a fight against a wolverine pack with about five members. The most likely way this fight starts is a wolverine pack and grizzly bear fighting over food.
Grizzly Bears have 20 claws, several inches in length, one on each toe of their four feet. Silverback Gorillas have nails on their fingers and toes like humans. The grizzly would more than likely win in a fight against a Silverback gorilla.
Adult polar bears have no natural predators except other polar bears. Cubs less than one year old sometimes are prey to wolves and other carnivores. Newborn cubs may be cannibalized by malnourished mothers or adult male polar bears.
So, it's best to just observe these formidable animals in their natural habitats from a safe distance. The polar bear would win a fight vs. a silverback gorilla, having a size, speed, and strength advantage.
Hippos are highly aggressive, unpredictable and often charge other animals or even humans. A hippo would win a fight against a polar bear. The hippo is larger, stronger, has better offensive powers and a defense that would allow it to last longer in a battle than a polar bear.
In a battle of stamina, the wolverine wins. For all these reasons, a solo wolverine would likely kill a solo wolf. However, it's far more likely that the wolf would retreat before it received fatal damage.
A grizzly bear is likely able to beat both a polar bear and a black bear in a battle for survival.
2 Sabretooth Has Tormented Wolverine But Never Beat Him
For Sabretooth, the only victory over Wolverine can be killing him. No matter how hard he's tried, he's proven completely unable to kill his opponent.
Wolverines have incredibly strong jaws (as powerful as that of wolves), paws that are as strong as that of a bear, and they are every bit as agile as stone martens. Because of these combined qualities the wolverine is a formidable and fearless predator.
While their size may be deceptive, this creature is one you don't want to cross paths with. So, step aside polar bear. The wolverine is ounce-for-ounce the toughest animal in the North. The big, bad wolf will prey on creatures as large as a moose.
Encounters between grizzlies and polar bears have been reported in past literature; in these encounters, grizzly bears killed denning female polar bears while at a significant size disadvantage.
The speed advantage in this battle depends on the location. While tigers win on land, polar bears win in the water. Polar bears can really move well for their size. They're able to lumber along at 25 miles per hour.
Ayotte made headlines around the world in November 2013 when he rescued Montrealer Erin Greene, 32, from a polar bear attack in Churchill. Ayotte beat the bear with a shovel, which distracted it long enough for Greene to escape.
Wolverine's biggest strength–his metal skeleton–also leads to his key weakness: magnets. From the movies and the comic books we know that Logan is extremely vulnerable to magnetic fields, as Magneto can twist and toss him as he pleases with a mutant ability to control magnetic fields.
Wolverine's main weakness is drowning, but that was only something that he used to kill his son, Daken. While that is his main weakness, Logan has died by having all his flesh melted off his body, by suffocating in adamantium, and he even killed himself once to end a threat to the world.
Threats to wolverines include habitat loss and fragmentation, climate change and some hunting. The wolverine is proposed for listing under the Endangered Species Act as threatened. Do your part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change.
