Puppies, unlike older dogs, don't have fat reserves. Therefore, they can't go longer than 12 hours without food. This is particularly true for toy breeds that are prone to hypoglycemia (a drop in blood sugar), which can lead to serious complications. Puppies are also more susceptible to dehydration than older dogs.
First, we'll determine how much your puppy sleeps at night and then distribute the remaining sleep time throughout the day. Typically, dogs between 7-16 weeks can sleep 6-8 hours, but they still need to take a potty break at night. So if your dog wakes up at night, it means it needs to pee.
Younger puppies (from 8 weeks old) should only be left for 2 hours on their own initially and then gradually build up the duration. This is for both their physical and mental wellbeing. As soon as your pup arrives in your home, practice leaving them alone for short periods of time.
As mentioned above, 8 week old puppies should eat anywhere from 3-4 times per day. They can stick with that same schedule until they are about 3 months old.
If you have a young puppy or plan to be gone for longer than four hours at a time, consider using a puppy pen instead. A puppy pen will give your puppy a safe area to play and stretch their legs. You can also place a puppy pad in the corner to contain any messes your dog makes while you're at work.
Most experts agree you shouldn't leave your adult dog alone for more than eight to 10 hours, but some dogs (especially ones with small bladders) can't last that long. DO prepare your dog before you go.
Use a puppy pen
It creates a den where your dog will feel safe and content. But you can't buy a little crate, lock up your puppy in it and go to work. It doesn't work like this. First, young puppies 8-10-week-old can't hold their bladder for hours on ends, and if you crate your dog too long, he will soil his bedding.
Once your puppy gets to six to eight weeks old, they can start being weaned onto solid food and should be eating around four times a day. They can go up to eight hours without food during the night.
It is recommended that puppy food is soaked from the age of 3-4 weeks up to 12 weeks. However there is no set rule for this, some puppies or even older dogs will always prefer to eat dry food when soaked and it is providing your puppy or dog with more water intake, so certainly nothing wrong with that!

Consider doggy daycare
If your dogs don't do well at home alone or you work long hours, doggy daycare is an excellent option. Even if it's just a few times a week, daycare can make a huge difference — your pup can socialize with other dogs, play, and get the exercise they need.
Here are common time limits for dogs of different life stages: Puppies: one hour per every month of age (so a three month old puppy can wait three hours to pee) Adult dogs age one year and up: up to ideally no more than six. Senior dogs age eight and up: depending on size and health, anywhere from two to six hours.
Some households have an easier time if there is another person in the home who has a slightly different schedule. It would appear that many dogs can adapt to being alone for 8-9 hours at a time provided they have a means to potty and have adequate room to move.
Your puppy will vomit and have diarrhea if canine parvovirus is present in their system. Vomit may be clear or a yellow or brown color, and diarrhea will often contain blood and be a light yellow or mustard colored hue.
Some find that there is a distinct metallic smell to feces infected with parvovirus. If left untreated, parvo cases can escalate quickly and dehydrate the dog to the point of no return.
