While Kryptonite don't guarantee it can't be bolt cropped, it would take a very skilled (not to mention big and heavy) thief to get through this chain. I've certainly never heard of it being defeated by bolt croppers. That it's Kryptonite's strongest lock is reflected in the security ratings. ART give it 5/5 stars.
Closed Shackle Padlocks
By further shielding the shackle on both sides, it is extremely difficult for someone to cut through with either a bolt cutter—not enough room to grip and exert force—or an angle grinder—not enough exposed parts.
For example, even the famous Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit, undoubtedly the world's most secure portable bicycle lock up until now, featuring an unrivalled 18mm hardened steel shackle, can be defeated in 1 minute with a portable angle grinder.
And it's just too easy to cut through the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini with an angle grinder. In my test (in the video at the top of the page), it took just 32 seconds to cut through both sides of the Fahgettaboudit Mini with a mains powered angle grinder.
Many of our locks are sold with our key safe service, which provides your first set of replacement keys for free.
You can not cut a Master lock using a bolt cutter. Since Master locks are made of hardened steel, using a standard cutter will be insufficient for this task.
ABUS Granit™: one of the world's most secure padlocks with a tensile resistance of over six tonnes. Granit locks have a tensile resistance of over six tonnes, making it almost impossible for attackers to release the shackle from the lock body by force.
I found a simple solution, assuming you have 20 minutes, 1 hand cramp, and about 200 calories to spare. You can cut through the lock using a standard hacksaw, but you'll need to change the blade out for a carbide grit rod saw.
This budget lock delivers, and is a great choice for those on a budget. The Kryptonite Kryptolok Standard offers some considerable perks; it's made of 13 millimeters of hardened steel on its shackle and holds its own against our power tools in comparison to similarly-price competition.
Even with a powerful angle-grinder, the New York Standard U-Lock takes OVER A MINUTE to cut through. That's a lot of time -- and a lot of sparks.
One of the most common bike theft techniques is using cable cutters to cut through bike locks. Cable locks are often made of thin, easily cuttable material, making them an easy target for thieves. To avoid this, invest in a high-quality U-lock or chain lock made of hardened steel.
The basic design, made of hardened steel of circular cross section bent into a U-shape with a removable crossbar, has been emulated by numerous other manufacturers, and adapted with variations in size and shape for other applications, such as locking motorcycles.
The Strongest Static Chain Lock: Kryptonite New York Legend 1515. Pragmasis probably make the strongest chain locks. But they're not available worldwide. So the Kryptonite New York Legend Chain 1515 is the most secure bike chain that is!
Call a Locksmith
If you're unable to pick open your bike lock by yourself, then perhaps you should consider getting a professional in. A Locksmith may or may not be able to pick your bike lock, as it's not a skill that every locksmith has. However, they will almost certainly have more chance than you (or me).
Call locksmith
In most cases, the locksmith will be able to open the lock in less than 5 minutes, so you can be on your way. Your local emergency locksmith will be able to get into your bike so that you can continue cycling instead of walking everywhere.
You will find that most of the time, a set of bolt cutters will make the cut, using a big effort, but the damage to the tool after continual use will render it ineffective over time.
Buy an angle grinder with a cut-off blade from your local hardware store. An angle grinder is a portable machine that uses a disc to cut metal and tile. Use a 60 grit disc that's 3⁄64 inch (1.2 mm) thick for the easiest way to cut through the lock's shackle. Angle grinders work best on padlocks or bike locks.
Size and Weight
An 18-inch bolt cutter can often cut metal with a diameter up to 9/32 of an inch, while a 24-inch bolt cutter can cut thicknesses up to 5/16 of an inch, depending on the material's hardness and the quality of the tool.
All six locks use different deterrents to increase the security of your bike and prevent theft. Can Kryptonite Bike Locks Be Cut? Unfortunately there isn't a lock out there that can't be cut.
