You can set up a plan with a participating service provider worldwide. If you're setting up your first plan on your iPad, go to Settings > Mobile Data > Set Up Mobile Data. If you're setting up another plan on your iPad, go to Settings > Mobile Data > Add a New Plan. Choose a service provider.
A WiFi-only model iPad cannot be made into a cellular data service iPad. It does not have the components that allow for cellular data service. If you order or purchase a WiFi only iPad you cannot change your mind and then use it with cellular service, for that you must purchase a cellular service version iPad model.
Another option is to hotspot using your mobile phone. All you need to do is go into your phone settings, select mobile data and then set up a hotspot. Doing this turns your phone into a de-facto WiFi hub using its mobile data. Then you just need to connect your iPad to your new, temporary router.
You can buy an iPad Wifi + Cellular, you can do so without activating a data plan with a carrier, and if you want activate it later. This means that the iPad will work off of Wifi until you decide to activate a cellular plan.
Searching the web on an iPad is simple to do, as all iPads are automatically set up with an internet browser called Safari. Safari is the program you use to access the internet and view web pages. All you need to do is locate Safari on your iPad and type in what you're searching for… and away you go!
If you can connect to the network but not able to access the Internet with your iPad®, it may be due to the following: There may be problems with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) Your router may not be properly connected to your cable or ADSL modem. Your iPad® may be getting an invalid IP Address from your router.
Check your network settings
If you still can't connect, try resetting your network settings. For iOS or iPadOS 15® or later: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. For iOS or iPadOS 14® or earlier: Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
From your Home screen, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Turn on Wi-Fi. Your device will automatically search for available Wi-Fi networks. Tap the name of the Wi-Fi network that you want to join.

Embedded SIM, or eSIM, is the latest SIM card for iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro models released after October 2018.
You must purchase cellular data capability when you initially buy the iPad. It cannot be added later if you did not purchase it initially.
To upgrade to iCloud+, go to Manage Account Storage in Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then choose Buy More Storage or Change Storage Plan.
If you use your devices sporadically and still need data every now and then, this plan could work well for you. For $10 per month, you get 2GB of high-speed data for your iPad. This is enough for occasional use, so it works if you're going to have a Wi-Fi connection every now and then.
iPad storage: size Apps and games
If you don't have a ton of apps or games on your iPad, 64GB will work just fine. If you have a fair number of apps and games, consider 128GB or 256GB. If you plan to do any graphics-heavy design work, get a 512GB or even more capacious model.
If you don't need it to access the internet when away from Wi-Fi, then you don't need to do anything. Also, note that you don't get an actual phone line with the iPad. It cannot on its own make calls or receive SMS messages even when connected to cellular service, only access the internet.
If your iPad does not have a SIM slot, then you have a WiFi Only model of iPad. WiFi Only models do not have any Cellular capabilities - and hardware cannot be retrofitted. It is not possible to change or modify the internal hardware components of an iPad.
Common Causes for Wi-Fi has no internet access
ISP is down. Incorrect internet protocol (IP) address. Security software interfering with internet access. Outdated wireless drivers.
If you can't connect to Personal Hotspot with Wi-Fi
On the device that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > Personal Hotspot, then: Make sure that Allow Others to Join is on. Remember the device's Wi-Fi network name and password that appear on this screen.
Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults.
