For procedures that are scheduled to start after noon, it is okay to drink clear liquids (black coffee or tea without milk, water, Seven-Up, ginger ale or apple juice) until 5 hours before the start time of the procedure. You should still not eat any solid food after midnight the night before.
Do not eat anything solid. No red, orange or purple products. No dairy products or creamers. Clear liquids include water, tea, coffee, apple juice, white grape juice, white cranberry juice, sports drinks, vitamin waters, Jell-O®, broth and soda.

The effects of the sedation could last up to a day, so you should not drive or operate any machinery until the following day. You may feel gassy or bloated for a while after the procedure because of the air that was injected into your intestine during the colonoscopy.
Acceptable clear liquids include: water, tea, Apple juice, Ginger ale, Sprite, 7UP, Gatorade, Powerade, Vitamin Water, Crystal Light. Black coffee is considered a clear liquid. However, milk and cream are not considered clear liquid and please do not add them to your coffee.
The Day Before Your Procedure
Eat a light breakfast today (coffee with milk or creamer is okay), but then begin a clear liquid diet. See below for acceptable food and beverages. During the day, increase fluid intake to prevent dehydration.
The clear liquid diet includes: Coffee and tea without milk or non-dairy creamer (sugar or honey is OK). Clear, nonfat broths. Strained, pulp-free fruit and vegetable juices.

Be sure to drink at least 12 tall glasses (about 8-10 ounces each) of clear liquids throughout the day in addition to what you drink with your bowel prep. Taking Your Prep: By the day before your test you should already have your “bowel prep” medicine. If not, call your doctor.
Will I be up all night with colonoscopy prep? Probably not, if you start on time. While everyone's body is different, most people are able to complete their round of purging before going to sleep for the night.
DAY OF COLONOSCOPY

Some people use laxatives, enemas, and other methods of colon cleansing to lose weight. However, you only lose about 12% of your entire caloric intake from laxative use. That's not a lot!
What are the effects of the “bowel prep?” You will have lots of diarrhea from the bowel prep. This will start anywhere from a few minutes to 3 hours after you start your prep. Many people have bloating, abdominal discomfort, and/or nausea.
You may experience loose stool or no stool for up to three days following the procedure.
