The second skin is breathable and can be showered in, but do not bath or swim with it on.
If SecondSkin is used, keep on for 2-3 days. You can shower with a new tattoo. It is ok to get your tattoo wet. But DO NOT soak your new tattoo.
Showering while wearing Saniderm is fine, but it's best to keep the time spent in the shower to a minimum. Water may weaken the adhesive of the bandage, which allows for unwanted contaminants to enter the bandage, putting you at higher risk for infection.
If your tattoo is bandaged with Saniderm (Second Skin), you should keep the bandage on for 3-4 days. During this time, it is normal to see some fluid build up beneath the bandage. (If the bandage begins to leak, you must remove the bandage and follow the standard aftercare instructions listed below).
If water gets under the bandage, remove it immediately and continue with the normal aftercare routine. Ink and plasma may come to the surface under the bandage and you may see some splotches or what appears to be double lines.
NOTES ON SANIDERM
If at any point your Saniderm peels up to expose part of the tattoo, or fills up with liquid from an outside source (such as water from the sink or shower), remove the Saniderm completely and swap over to the dry heal method for the remainder of the healing period.
Many people choose to remove the original piece of Saniderm after the first 1-2 days for aesthetic purposes and then apply a second piece and leave on for an additional 4-6 days.
If you do exercise or workout with Saniderm and experience zero to minimal sweating, you should at least take a shower and rinse off. If you notice any peeling of the bandage whatsoever, remove it. Additionally, if the sweating was excessive and you feel contaminants may have entered, you should remove it.
SecondSkin™ is a medical-grade, transparent, adhesive barrier that protects new tattoos while they are healing. It is latex-free, waterproof, breathable, and hypoallergenic.
Whether or not you change your bandage, leave it on for an additional three to six days. Once you remove our SecondSkin™ bandage, keep your tattoo clean and start using our aftercare cream as needed.
Replace the bandage with a fresh one. I recommend leaving the wrap on for 3-5 days. Really the first 48 hours are the most beneficial to the healing process, but as a rule of thumb the longer you can leave it on, the easier of a heal you'll have (no more than six days though!).
If the Second Skin starts peeling or peels off straightaway after the application, don't panic. Just remove it, clean the tattoo and reapply. You can also peel it off, clean the area and continua with the normal after care.
You can shower with it in place, but you should avoid soaking the area in the tub or swimming for at least two weeks after getting a new tattoo. Be gentle because much water can diminish the second skin's adhesiveness, making it less effective.
Tattoo Aftercare with Second Skin
That is completely normal, so do try to keep the second skin on for the full 24 hours. After that 24 hours has passed, remove the second skin and clean your tattoo with neutral/unscented soap, and then pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
What if my Saniderm Comes off Early? It is okay if your Saniderm Bandage begins to peel off early. If this happens, remove the tattoo wrap and apply a new tattoo bandage as needed.
While an air bubble under Saniderm is not necessarily “bad,” it will likely cause problems with adhesion further on down the line.
You will notice plasma (looks like clear watery liquid), ink, and blood trapped in the bandage, and it may leak out of the Saniderm. This is NORMAL and part of the healing process. Don't freak out over this.
Leave the Saniderm bandage on for 3-5 days.
During this time your tattoo will start to look different under the Saniderm. Lines might appear blurred or colors might look darker. This is your body's healing fluid obscuring the view of the tattoo and will come off with the Saniderm.
In most cases, this type of bandages also offers slightly faster healing. This is because it holds in the body's natural healing processes and prevents the tattoo from drying out. Most of these bandages tend to be see through, so you'll be able to see your new tattoo as it heals.
Its normal for your saniderm to fill with plasma, ink and blood. It typically creates a dark brown liquid that sits on your tattoo under the plastic. Leave it Alone. After a couple of days, the liquid will start to harden up under the saniderm.
There's small chance you might experience allergic reaction to second skin. If you experience redness and itchiness around the edge of the second skin please just peel it off and wash your tattoo.
