Capsules should be taken one at a time; we do not recommend dissolving them in water. For Metamucil Fiber Capsules and Capsules Plus Calcium, we recommend taking them four times per day with at least 8 ounces of liquid, as indicated. Q: Can I take Metamucil every day? A: Yes!
If you choose powdered Metamucil, you can mix with juice or water, but make sure that the liquid is cool. Hot liquids make it hard to mix and drink your Metamucil because the psyllium fiber gels faster in comparison. It's Metamucil-o-clock for someone out there, somewhere. Anytime is a good time to take Metamucil.
Metamucil is made with psyllium husk, a plant-based fiber that helps promote digestive health and regularity. * It also acts as a non-stimulant laxative that relieves occasional constipation, generally helping you produce a bowel movement in 12 to 72 hours.
Overdose of a drug can be accidental. If you have taken more than the prescribed Metamucil tablets there is a chance of getting a harmful effect on your body's functions. Overdose of a medicine can lead to some medical emergency.
Metamucil also comes in a pill (capsule) form. The powder form is less expensive. For some people, the pill form is more convenient, but be prepared to be taking at least 6 to 12 (or more!) of the pills per day. There is no “correct” dose of Metamucil to take.
* Metamucil Capsules: Take 5 capsules 4 times per day before each meal to help lower cholesterol to promote heart health. † Or take 2 to 5 capsules up to 4 times per day to promote digestive health. * Check with your health care professional if you are using Metamucil as part of a cholesterol-lowering program.
The typical Metamucil dosage for people ages 12 and older is 3.4 grams (1 serving), mixed with 8 ounces of a cool liquid, up to 3 times a day. The dosage for children ages 6 to 11 years old is 1.7 grams (½ serving), mixed with 8 ounces of a cool liquid, up to 3 times a day.
Common side effects include abdominal cramps, bloating, and changes in stool consistency. May aggravate hemorrhoids or anal fissures. If the daily recommended amount of fluid is not drunk, then Metamucil could cause severe constipation, especially in people who are already dehydrated.
Any time of day is appropriate to take Metamucil as long as an adequate intake of fluids (at least 240 mL of water or liquid per serving) is consumed. We recommend taking Metamucil three times per day at mealtimes as a convenient way to get the benefits of Metamucil.
A bowel obstruction (blockage) is a serious side effect that can occur with Metamucil. This is especially true if you don't follow proper instructions while using it. Metamucil needs water to work, so not drinking enough water with your dose can lead to a blockage.
Any time of day is a great day to take Metamucil's psyllium husk, so long as you drink plenty of water with it (at least 8 oz). Start with one serving per day, then gradually increase your daily servings each week to reach your health goals.
These are easy to swallow, and I gave taste a 5 star because the only taste is the drink you use to swallow it. Better yet they worked as good as the powder if not a little bit better and they are really easy to use. If you have any issues with being regular I highly recommend these capsules.
Metamucil is safe for daily consumption. It promotes regular bowel movements and improved digestive health. However, personalized needs may vary. Consult your healthcare provider to determine the best approach for you.

When you take your evening dose you'll need to make sure you wait an hour before you go to bed – if you go to sleep too soon, this can cause a blockage in the gut. An easy habit to get into is to have Fybogel after you've eaten breakfast, and after you've eaten dinner.
Taking Metamucil with breakfast, lunch, and dinner is the optimal time to do so if you want to feel less hungry in between meals. You will feel more satiated if you drink it while eating. Take the supplement as often as you would like throughout the day if you are using it only for general health.
Psyllium (Metamucil, Fybogel, generics) – One teaspoonful of psyllium twice daily is often recommended for constipation, so why use it for diarrhea? The answer is that it has a water-holding effect in the intestines that may help bulk up watery stool. Some doctors recommend it for the variable bowel habit of IBS.
