You must ask the recipient to enable the read receipts option in their Messages app. Only then can you see if the person has read your text.
The recipient may have turned read receipts off if you don't see the 'Seen' text or the eye icon. Try sending the person a DM. If they respond and you never saw the 'Seen' feedback, they've turned their read receipts off.
Apple's iMessage app lets you know if your message has been read; the sender and recipient must be using iMessages on an iPhone or iPad and have read receipts enabled.
Some people don't have receipts enabled, and it's usually pretty easy to tell. If you send messages to them and they respond to you, but there is still no read receipt, odds are good that their read receipts are disabled. With Community, there are typically not regular read receipts that go along with text messages.
A delivered text message status does not necessarily mean that the recipient reads the message. It simply means that the message was received by their device and is stored in their memory. The recipient may still choose not to read or open the message, even though it has been delivered successfully.
The recipient blocked your phone number
If the recipient blocks your phone number from contacting them, your message won't be delivered. If you don't see a 'Delivered' or 'Read' notification, this is a likely explanation.
If the text message says delivered, that just means that it made it to its destination safely. If the recipient hasn't opened it, then it wouldn't show as “read”. There would be no indicator on your end that you were blocked.
When you send them an SMS and you get the "Delivered" notification underneath it, you weren't blocked. If you get a notification like "Message Not Delivered" or you get no notification at all, that's a sign of a potential block.
When a message is “read”, that means the recipient is ACTIVELY looking at the message (not just in Preview), and indicates attentiveness. By switching that option off, she's telling you that she doesn't want you to know if she has or has not read the message.
You may have noticed that the text messages in your iPhone's Messages app can appear as either green or blue. The difference? Green messages are ordinary SMS text messages, while blue messages are using Apple's proprietary iMessage format.
What does it mean when you are blocked but your message says delivered? This means that the message you sent has been delivered to the recipient's device, but they have blocked you from seeing their replies.
It means that someone does not want you to know your message has been received.
1: Use Airplane Mode
The most common method how to read Messenger messages without being seen is by using Airplane mode. For enabling the Airplane mode, go to Settings, search for Airplane mode and toggle it on. Most mobiles have it on top settings.
Hence why dating psychologist Madeleine Mason recommends turning read receipts off altogether. “If you have a tendency to overthink things and get mini panics over seeing someone having read your message and not replying, then I would suggest turning the function off completely,” she told The Independent.
The appearance of a second gray checkmark shows your message was delivered to the recipient's phone. The two checkmarks will turn blue if the recipient has viewed your message. To turn off this feature, click Settings and tap Account. Choose the Privacy option and disable Read Receipts.
When the read receipts are “on,” we know if you see our texts. We know that everyone is “busy” in life, so we try not to overthink if we don't get a text back. Sometimes they genuinely were busy and didn't get it and everything just fine.
If you send a message as a regular SMS in the green text bubble and you do not get a “Delivered” notification but instead get a notification similar to “Message not Delivered” or no message at all, that means you were probably blocked.
For Android, go to Settings > Call Settings > Additional Settings > Caller ID. Then, select Hide Number. Your calls will remain anonymous and you can bypass the blocked list.
Your old messages remain blue, but the latest texts you send after they've blocked you turn green. However, the bubble colors aren't accurate clues. They could mean the recipient turned off their phone, gone offline, or switched from iOS to Android.
"Delivered" means the message has been successfully received by the person's iPhone, but not necessarily that it has been opened. If Read Receipts are on, it will show the time the message was read. If Read Receipts are off, it will say "Delivered" regardless if they have read it or not.
Read means the user that you sent the message to actually opened up the iMessage app. If it says delivered, they most likely didn't look at the message although it was sent through.
Message Read Receipts on Android
You can turn it on in your messaging app Settings. Click directly on Multimedia Messages, Text Messages, or open More Settings to see these options. Then, tap Chat Features to turn on Send read receipts. Once it is turned on, the checkmarks in your previous conversations will change.
When someone switches to a new device that doesn't run on iOS, they may leave their phone number in the app. In that case, you may not get the “Delivered” tag if you message them, but the message bubbles will be blue.
A filled-in blue circle next to your message means that your message was delivered. And, when a friend has read your message, a small version of your friend's photo will appear next to your message. Jessica Mercado and 20,027 others like this.
