Kaido is basically a Fish an as a fish I assume Kaido can at least breathe under water maybe swim and even fight . When Kaido was introuduce he was presented as invincible on the land , the sky and even the sea so my take is that his devil fruit enable Kaido to maintain his capacity even under water .
