Metabolic liver diseases such as hemochromatosis and Wilson disease may mimic osteoarthritis and can affect the joints. Metabolic syndrome and obesity are also associated with osteoarthritis, RA, and gouty arthritis. Other coexisting liver diseases with rheumatic diseases are described in Table 1.
Joint and muscle pain are common symptoms or complications of liver disease. The pain can be caused by the immune system fighting an infection, such as viral hepatitis. Joint pain may also be a side effect of medications, or the result of conditions with links to liver disease, such as RA.

We found an 88% incidence of painful muscle cramps in 33 patients with cirrhosis, as compared to 21% in a matched population without liver disease. The cramps were characterized by severe pain, occurred in calf muscles several times a week (mainly at rest or during sleep), and lasted for a few minutes.
More than 80 percent of people with cirrhosis (a condition involving scarring of the liver) report pain, and it's usually described as dull or throbbing. Stage 3: Cirrhosis
