While blue eyes are more sensitive to light during the day, people with blue eyes tend to see better at night – unless there are bright lights. In that case, the lack of melanin makes them as sensitive to light at night as they are during the day.
Light-eyed people (with blue or green eyes) have slightly better night vision because they have less pigment in the iris, which which leaves the iris more translucent and lets more light into the eye.
Also, darker irises reflect less light within the eye, reducing susceptibility to glare and improving contrast discernment—so people with darker eyes may have better vision in high-glare situations, such as driving at night.
Blue Eyes are More Sensitive to Light
Melanin in the iris of the eye appears to help protect the back of the eye from damage caused by UV radiation and high-energy visible “blue” light from sunlight and artificial sources of these rays.
In fact, the top layer of a blue iris doesn't contain any pigment at all. This lack of pigment is the reason that blue-eyed people may be more sensitive to bright light and have a greater need to wear sunglasses than their brown-eyed counterparts.
Determining the rarest eye color... not so straightforward
Green is the rarest eye color of the more common colors. Outside of a few exceptions, nearly everyone has eyes that are brown, blue, green or somewhere in between. Other colors like gray or hazel are less common.
If you have blue or green eyes, you need to wear a pair of sunglasses every time you go out on a bright day. That's because light-colored eyes are associated with a higher risk for sun damage and certain eye diseases, such as cataracts, macular degeneration, photokeratitis or “eye sunburn,” and certain cancers.
While lighter-colored eyes may be more sensitive to sunlight, they are not necessarily more sensitive to vision. In fact, blue eyes have better visual acuity than brown eyes. This means that blue-eyed people can see small details more clearly.
Charming, friendly, and attractive are just a few words to describe the blue eyed bunch. They are the type to help others and lend a helping hand. The great sense of observation and outgoing personality are just two added traits that come with having blue eyes.
The most common characteristic thought to be associated with blue-eyed individuals: exuding sweetness by (42 percent), with being sexy (21 percent) and kind (10 percent) rounding out the top three.
We found that green is the most popular lens colour, with brown coming in a close second, despite it being one of the most common eye colours. Although blue and hazel are seen as the most attractive eye colours for men and women they are surprisingly the least popular.
There are plenty of blue-eyed Asians. This probably happens when the traditional blue-eyed allele comes into a family from a (possibly very distant) European ancestor. Blue eyes then resurface in a child generations later if they inherit the allele from both parents.
In daylight, green is the most visible color from a distance for human eyes. In the darkness, however, yellow is the easiest color to recognize. The rods (small structures in the eye) are responsible for sight in low-light situations.
Approximately 8% to 10% of the global population have blue eyes. A 2002 study found that the prevalence of blue eye color among the white population in the United States to be 33.8% for those born from 1936 through 1951, compared with 57.4% for those born from 1899 through 1905.
The difficulty in focussing blue light is due do imperfections in the lens of the eye (chromatic aberation) which means that different colours focus at different points on the retina.
"Many studies have been performed and they all concluded the same thing - a majority of all people consider those with blue eyes to be slightly more attractive on average than people with brown or hazel eyes."
Disadvantages of Blue Eyes
Typically, people with blue eyes are likely to be more sensitive to light. With less pigment in the layers of the iris, they may be unable to block out the effects of bright fluorescent lights or sunlight. This condition of light sensitivity is called photophobia.
Blue will always be recessive. If both parents have a blue allele, it is likely that the child will have blue eyes. However, if one parent has green eyes and the other blue, your child will most likely have green eyes, as green is dominant over blue.
As for what eyeshadow colors will make blue eyes pop, think warm shades like orange, brown, peach, and terracotta, along with shimmery champagne and rich berry.
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens. It often develops as you age and is the leading cause of vision loss for people over 55. 3 If you have a darker iris color, you are at a greater risk of developing this eye disease. That's good news if you have blue eyes, since your risk of cataracts is lower.
Unfortunately, unless you were born with blue eyes, there aren't any ways to naturally change your eye color.
Lighter-colored eyes have less pigment to protect against sun damage and UV radiation compared to darker-colored eyes. This means that people with green, hazel, or blue eyes are more sensitive to light and more susceptible to UV damage.
More pigment accumulates in the iris over the first few months of a child's life and blue eyes can become less blue or even turn completely brown. For most children, eye color stops changing after the first year, but for some kids the color can continue to change for several more years.
Pigment binds the dilating drops and require higher doses, but blue eyes react faster and more to dilation drops. Occasionally a child's eyes may stay dilated for longer than 24 hours.
