Nerve pain often feels like a shooting, stabbing or burning sensation. Sometimes it can feel as sharp and sudden as an electric shock.
Neuralgia is a sharp, shocking pain that follows the path of a nerve and is due to irritation or damage to the nerve. Common neuralgias include: Postherpetic neuralgia (pain that continues after a bout of shingles) Trigeminal neuralgia (stabbing or electric-shock-like pain in parts of the face)
Sharp, shooting pain in the leg may result from a cramp, an injury, a pinched or damaged nerve, and other issues. Home remedies include exercise and applying an ice pack, but medical treatment may be necessary.

Sciatica is a shooting pain that begins in the lower back, radiates into the buttock and down the back of one leg. The pain is often caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve from a herniated disc, bone spurs or muscle strain (Fig. 1).
MS can damage the nerves that affect your muscles. This can cause acute or paroxysmal pain in the form of spasms. Your arms and legs might shoot out uncontrollably and might have pain like cramping or pulling. Nerve pain can also be chronic in the form of painful or unusual sensations on your skin.
If you experience weakness, tingling, numbness or a total loss of feeling in a limb, see your health care provider to determine the cause. It's important to treat peripheral nerve injuries early.
And what better way to get blood flow moving than with a good old fashioned walk. It's the perfect low-impact aerobic exercise for everyone. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other. The more you exercise on a consistent basis, the better your chances are at reducing your nerve pain.
Despite its traditions, bed rest may actually cause more damage than good. Walking keeps muscles engaged while simultaneously protecting the sciatic nerve, which makes it great for long-term rewards without any major downfalls. Tucking in your stomach and focusing on deep breathing can bring even better results.
Other red flags that indicate sciatica include pain when standing or sitting, numbness in the legs and weakness or numbness when moving a leg or foot.
PN is often mistaken for another common illness, multiple sclerosis (MS). To get a better idea on the distinction between those diseases: PN or Peripheral Neuropathy – Part of the reason it is not easy always to identify PN is simply how diverse the condition is.
Unfortunately, chronic nerve pain rarely goes away completely. However, a combination of multidisciplinary treatments, such as physical therapy, regular exercise, medication, and pain management treatment can hopefully provide significant relief.

Muscle spasms: They usually affect your leg muscles. They're an early symptom for almost half the people with MS. They also affect people with progressive MS. You might feel mild stiffness or strong, painful spasms.
