What we do allow. Disclosed devices monitoring only public spaces and common spaces: Devices that allow for viewing or monitoring of only a public space (e.g. a front door or a driveway) or a common space that are clearly identified and disclosed ahead of a reservation are permitted.
Airbnb prohibits security cameras or recording devices that are in or that observe private spaces like bedrooms, bathrooms, or sleeping areas. You must indicate the presence of all security cameras or other recording devices in or around a listing, even if they're not turned on or hooked up.
Does Airbnb allow cameras? Yes, but only in common areas like living rooms and decks. The cameras must be out in the open, too, since hidden cameras aren't allowed.
What we don't allow. Physical intrusions: Hosts, guests, and those affiliated with them or working on their behalf must not access or attempt to access any private spaces without prior permission.
Are Airbnb guests screened? Airbnb does not comprehensively screen their guests. However, long before a host accepts a guest's booking, Airbnb might have done a background check. Unfortunately, the host won't be told about a guest's record with other Airbnb hosts.
Guests who refuse to leave—and how Airbnb can help
These situations are incredibly rare, but if they happen, we'll work with you to try and help resolve the problem with your guest. Should you face such a situation, let our 24/7 support team know as soon as possible and we'll get in touch with you.
Turn off the lights and slowly scan the room with a flashlight or laser pointer, looking for bright reflections. Scan the room from multiple spots so you don't miss a camera pointed only at certain places.
Use a flashlight
Many modern cameras have a lens that will reflect bright light. So, turn off the lights in the room and then turn on your flashlight. Move the flashlight slowly around the room, focusing specifically on areas where you suspect a camera may likely be hidden.
The bottom line on Airbnb safety
Whether it's your personal information or health that you want to protect, Airbnb is usually as safe as staying in a hotel and can even, at times, be safer.
Detecting Smoke or Vape in Airbnb
A host can detect if you've smoked in an Airbnb. But a host will have no idea if you've vaped in an Airbnb provided they do not see your residual vape or device. Don't smoke in a non-smoking Airbnb or you will face enforcement action from Airbnb.
Airbnb bookings are safe - as long as you know what to look for. As mentioned above, one feature that separates Airbnb from other major booking sites is its new user verification process. When new Airbnb users create an account, they must verify their identity before they can book.
The Rental is a 2020 American horror film co-written, produced and directed by Dave Franco, in his feature directorial debut. Franco co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Swanberg from a story by Franco, Swanberg, and Mike Demski.
Before you book, a Host will only be shown your first name and identity verification status. Your full name and profile photo will be shared with the Host after your booking is confirmed.
Simply download a hidden camera detector app and scan the area for any devices. The app will create an alert if any are found. Using a flashlight to check for unusual reflections in objects is another easy way to find a hidden camera; the lens will reflect the light back, drawing attention to the hidden device.

The app can also find a hidden microphone in addition to cameras. It also claims to detect an infrared camera and offers users tips and tricks to stay protected.
If you're security-minded, you probably check your hotel or Airbnb before you get comfortable. Part of this might mean checking the mirror for hidden cameras. You may be able to spot them just by searching around the frame, or you can use tools that detect light and radiofrequency.

What is Airbnb's policy about cameras and other recording device? Airbnb explicitly prohibits hidden recording devices of any kind. If you discover a camera or other kind of recording device that's been hidden (in a smoke alarm, an alarm clock, or other spot), you should report it to Airbnb and the police.
Treat your Host's home like your own
Cleanliness: Guests should not leave the listing in a state that requires excessive or deep cleaning (ex: with moldy dishes, soiled carpets, stains from pets, etc.).
You should disclose to your visitors that you have a security camera or smart doorbell installed in your house rules or guest communications. This will deter guests from bringing additional visitors to your Airbnb, as they know they will be watched the whole time when entering and leaving the rental.
You can also decline an inquiry, which prevents the guest from sending a request. Make sure to review our Nondiscrimination Policy before you decline. Turning down a lot of requests can impact your reservation rates and where your listing shows up in search.
A guest's profile photo will not be available to you until after you accept the booking request. If the guest doesn't want to provide a photo, then they won't be able to book your space.
