Your baby should continue to move as normal once your waters have broken and when you are having contractions. You can eat and drink as normal.
Once your water has broken your baby is no longer as protected from infection as he was inside the fluid-filled sac. To be on the safe side, your provider may recommend you avoid having a bath or using tampons. After your water breaks, you may still have some time to kill before active labor begins.
What to Do When Your Water Breaks. If you think there's any chance your water has broken, wear a pad (not a tampon) and call your doctor or midwife right away. They'll usually tell you to come to their office or head straight to your hospital or birthing center.

Rupture Of Membranes: Your Water Breaks
The so-called "rupturing of the membranes" can happen at the very start of labor or during the first stage of labor. Usually the doctor, midwife, or nurse will break your water before you become completely dilated, if it hasn't broken by then.
If your cervix has opened up to at least 2-3 centimetres dilated and the baby's head is well engaged (low down in your pelvis), your waters will be broken (see below under Artifical Rupture of Membranes). If it is not possible to break your waters a second Propess pessary may be inserted if appropriate.
Signs of leaking amniotic fluid
Leaking amniotic fluid might feel like a gush of warm fluid or a slow trickle from the vagina. It will usually be clear and odorless but may sometimes contain traces of blood or mucus. If the liquid is amniotic fluid, it is unlikely to stop leaking.
Every woman's labour progresses differently, however most women go into labour on their own after their waters break. Around 7 in every 10 women give birth within 24 hours of their waters breaking and almost all women (9 in every 10) give birth within 48 hours of their waters breaking.
If you didn't already head to the hospital when your water broke in the first phase, this is usually the time to head to the hospital. Although it is the shortest phase, the transition phase is the most challenging. Transition typically lasts 30 minutes to 2 hours as your cervix fully dilates from 8 cm to 10 cm.
Sometimes, however, labor doesn't start. If you experience prelabor rupture of membranes, your doctor might stimulate uterine contractions before labor begins on its own (labor induction). What happens after your doctor breaks your water? You may see either a gush or a trickle of fluid from your vagina. Your healthcare provider will use several absorbent pads or towels to soak up the fluid. You may feel more intense contractions that come closer together.

If your water breaks before 34 weeks, it is more serious. If there are no signs of infection, the provider may try to hold off your labor by putting you on bed rest. Steroid medicines may be given to help the baby's lungs grow quickly. The baby will do better if its lungs have more time to grow before being born.

In general, amniotic fluid is odorless, although some people detect a sweet smell like semen or chlorine. It's also usually clear or lightly tinged pink with streaks of blood.
