The short answer is usually No. It's a process that takes multiple sessions. Unless you are a professional colourist it can be hard to understand why you are unable to achieve the blondes you see on Instagram and Pinterest in one go!
If you have dark brown hair and want to go blonde, don't expect your hair to magically transform into a beautiful blonde color after one sitting. It's important to remember that you may need a few bleaching and coloring sessions to achieve your dream hue.
From a strand test, you should also get a better sense of how many sessions you'll need to make the full transition. For example, going from dark brown to light blonde hair may require three to four sessions.
Going from brown to blonde hair is not a one-and-done job. Clients need to return to the salon regularly to keep roots at bay and their blonde looking fresh. Typically, this means booking in every six-eight weeks, although they may be able to leave it longer if they opt for balayage.
First Of All, What Are The Different Options For Turning Brown Hair Blonde? The most common way to go from brown hair to blonde is to do a double-process, which involves stripping your base or natural color before toning it to your desired shade.
The natural color of your hair, the porosity of your hair, as well as the length of time you apply it affect the level of bleaching. Four levels of lifting during one session, and having an interval of 2 to 3 weeks between sessions can keep your hair healthy.
Most brown-haired clients will require at least two appointments to reach their dream blonde shade. If they're going from dark brown or black hair to blonde, it may even take a few more.
The short answer is usually No. It's a process that takes multiple sessions. Unless you are a professional colourist it can be hard to understand why you are unable to achieve the blondes you see on Instagram and Pinterest in one go!
Chris Williams International Colour Director at Rush Hair tells us what we need to know about going blonde from having dark hair in one sitting. Hair stylists are constantly asked if a client can go from brown to blonde in one visit to the salon. Whilst it will vary from one person to the next, the answer is often no.
Know That It Will Probably Take More Than One Session
Talking your hair from brunette to blonde is a process — Sanger even has clients he's been working with for over two years to safely reach the perfect shade of blonde. “If you have virgin hair, it may take just one session,” Richardson says.
It probably won't happen in one sitting.
Your colorist will most likely have to do color and toner, and color and toner, over and over — and you might still not get the ice-blonde hue you want in one sitting. That's especially true if you have color on your hair already, or super dark strands.
If your hair is healthy, and the lightening process is done correctly and slowly, you can safely go lighter with your hair over time. But even then, there will most likely be some minimal damage. Time – Going from dark to light takes several appointments, and several hours each session.
Bleach is the most effective way to lighten dark hair, but it's also a very aggressive process and the most damaging method. Bleaching dark hair could take your natural hair color from Stage 1 to Stage 6 or 7 with just 2 or 3 bleaching sessions.
Skin tone: Your skin tone can have a big impact on which hair color looks best on you. Cool skin tones tend to look better with cooler hair colors, like ash blonde or cool brown, while warm skin tones look better with warmer hair colors, like golden blonde or rich brown.
Your timescale. “Give your colourist at least six months to a year if you want a big colour change,” Clarke says – confirming that dramatic changes can take time and patience. “Going from dark to blonde should be done with care and ideally over a few visits to maintain the condition of the hair,” she explains.
Lightening your hair overall, with highlighting and toning to achieve your perfect blonde – this process will take approximately three hours. You'll need root touch ups every four weeks plus highlights at every second appointment.
Each session should roughly be about two weeks apart, this is to allow your hair to rehydrate and regain strength. Depending on your hair type and whether you've coloured your hair before, it can take anywhere from two to six visits to achieve healthy blonde locks.
All-over blonde can be a great option for those who are looking for a dramatic change in their hair colour and a low-maintenance look, while highlights can add dimension and depth to the hair without being as damaging or high-maintenance.
Black hair dye is heavily pigmented and after several color removal processes, we may be able to render lighter hair. Keep in mind, the integrity of your hair is paramount since bleach will be used with color remover. If your hair is damaged do not do this.
How Many Sessions Does It Take To Get The Desired Bleach Level? The sessions depend on how light you want to go and how dark your hair is. It is recommended to go not more than four levels up in one session. After two-three weeks, you can go four more levels up to get the lighter hair shade of your choice.
Wait for about 4 to 6 weeks before bleaching it again. This waiting period allows your hair to rest, rehydrate, and recover from the effects of the first bleaching session. Before the second bleaching session, continue to oil your tresses and undergo conditioning treatments. This will keep your hair in better shape.
It is always important to note that going from black to blonde can be intensive and take more than one sitting. If your black hair has already been dyed several times in the past, it will probably take 2-3 processes to reach blonde.
Bleaching dark hair is much more of a process than bleaching lighter hair—the darker your hair is, the longer it takes to lift. Make sure you have a few weeks to bring the look to life, as the safest way to do this is in multiple sessions (think two to three weeks to make platinum magic happen!).
Doing a double process is the easiest way to go from dark brown to blonde. This involves stripping your natural hair color before toning it to your desired blonde hue. If your hair is super dark, single-process lifting won't work. You need the double-step process to lift and lighten.
If you use blonde hair dye on dark brown hair without first lightening your hair, your hair will not turn blonde. The hair dye will not be able to lift the dark color of your hair and replace it with blonde pigment. Instead, the result will likely be a brassy, orange color or a darker brown with reddish tones.
