Being gentle while kissing with braces is incredibly important for the safety of you and your partner. It's a good idea to start with closed lips. Be very careful not to bump your braces against the inside of your lips, which could scratch them. If you start open mouth kissing, don't rush!
A different feel
If you take the time to think about it, kissing will be really straightforward, but it will feel different, a first. You may need a little time to get used to the way it feels, and some practice may be warranted, too.
Namely, if the person giving oral sex has braces, they can either unintentionally cut their partner or they can have open sores from the braces. Both of these situations increase the chance of STI transmission during oral sex.
You've heard it all: Train Tracks, Brace Face, Metal Mouth. It gets old, yet those who call people one of these names seem to think they brilliantly came up with it themselves and it's the most hilarious thing they've ever spouted.
We've all heard the nicknames for braces: brace face, train tracks, metal mouth, tinsel teeth, the alliterative list goes on.
Sugary, acidic and carbonated drinks can weaken the adhesive attaching brackets of your braces to your teeth. They can also increase the risk of a bracket popping out and allow bacteria to get underneath the bracket and start creating a cavity.
Your First Few Days in Braces
Initially the braces feel like they “stick out” and it may be difficult to get your lips around them. This is normal. As you become accustomed to your braces and your tooth alignment improves, this sensation will cease to be a concern.
Some people with braces may be shy about smiling. It can take some getting used to the way braces look, and many people feel self conscious, especially when they first get braces. One of the best ways to feel comfortable while smiling with braces is to practice so that you become comfortable smiling.
If both parties are wearing braces or if it is your first time kissing with braces on, it is important to go slow. Even though it's unlikely your braces will snag, you could snag your partner's tongue, or you might bump their lips with the wires.
Fortunately, this is very unlikely to happen because the brackets and wires that makeup today's braces are so small that it would be virtually impossible for them to get stuck together. So, if you have a partner who also has braces, don't be afraid to give them a kiss, one of life's simple pleasures.
If you are French kissing someone with braces, be sure to keep your tongue away from the back of the mouth. That is where the sharpest parts of the braces tend to be. Mostly, just relax and don't worry about it. The more you think about it, the less involved you'll be in the kiss, and the less romantic it will be.
Most patients will need to wear fixed braces for around 18 to 24 months. For problems that are harder to correct, or for our older patients, treatment may take up to three years. If you have less severe issues or are a good candidate for clear aligners like Invisalign, treatment may take as little as 6 to 12 months.
If you receive the green light to deepen the kiss, part your lips and gently use your tongue to stimulate your partner's lips and tongue. Run your tongue along their lips or slide your tongue along theirs. Take it slowly and gently, allowing the intensity to build as you match your partner's energy and movements.
Getting treatment like Invisalign or traditional braces will only change the “base” that your lips rest against. Side note: If you're wearing traditional braces using a bracket and wire system, you may temporarily notice that your lips look bigger. This is due to the extra width created between your teeth and lips.
Depending on your oral health habits, your teeth might actually be darker if you had foods with dyes, tooth decay problems or didn't brush and floss often. If your teeth aren't white, don't fret! Most patients do teeth whitening after their braces to get their new straight smile sparkling.
Do Braces Change Your Lips and Make Them Look Bigger? The position of your lips can be altered with braces, but only to the extent that the teeth are directly in front of the shift. In terms of lip volume or form, braces have nothing to do with it.
Your orthodontist targets specific teeth to apply force via the brackets and arch wires. This process essentially loosens your periodontal ligament so your teeth can be adjusted to their proper location. Once the tooth or teeth begin(s) to reposition in your jawbone, it's typical to feel that floating sensation.
Generally speaking, drinking alcoholic beverages won't have any direct negative results on your braces.
You could stick with just one nickname or switch between variations of a few (sweetheart, sweetie, sweet pea, honey, honey bunny… we could go on). No matter what, their hearts will go pitter-patter when you call them a sweet nickname during your next date night or flirty text convo.
Baldy, Forever Chef, Cookie Monster, Boss, Homer Simpson, Chief, Wise Owl, and Four Eyes are some interesting nicknames.
