Diane Marsh suggested: “Dishwasher tablets are the best thing you can use to remove limescale from toilets as it dissolves it all.” Rita Murray commented: “Mine was really bad and I just put a dishwasher tablet down it and left it overnight. The stains were all gone by the next morning.”
Dishwasher tablets are meant to dissolve hard water stains, so they're the perfect solution for cleaning toilets. Besides cleaning dishes and toilet bowls, you can use dishwasher tablets for a few more cleaning projects around the house.
Let it sit. You may start to notice improvement in as little as 15 minutes, though that is the minimum time your dish soap should sit in the toilet. Again, we prefer to let it sit overnight whenever possible. Once enough time has passed, go ahead and flush your toilet.
Today comes another inexpensive bathroom cleaning trick: dishwasher tablets can help remove soap scum.
Sprinkle baking soda at the end of the day after everyone has gone to sleep. Swish it with the toilet brush to get it above the water line and leave overnight with the closed lid. Just flush in the morning. Use an automatic toilet bowl cleaner.
Pour one cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl, swish the solution around with the toilet brush and leave to sit for a minute. Add one cup of baking soda and another of vinegar. Leave the solution to fizz for about five minutes, then scrub the toilet so the solution reaches all the stains.
Try this: Swish a cup of vinegar around in the toilet bowl using a toilet brush, then add a cup of baking soda, followed by an additional cup of vinegar. Let the fizzing solution sit for 10 minutes. Use a toilet brush to scrub stains. Let mixture sit for a few more minutes and then flush.
Blocked sink drains are a too-common occurrence and while there are a good few ways to free them, a dishwasher tablet is among the most effective methods.
Many dishwasher tablets contain toxic substances, so we'd be wary of using them in the oven. Even if you rinse the oven thoroughly, there could be some residue left over.
One way to prolong the time between cleanings is to put something directly in the tank that will wash away the crud, remove stains, and keep mold from building up.
It won't damage your toilet or the septic system. Fans have praised the idea and have used the hack on their own toilets, while critics argue that the detergent will clog, and even damage pipes before long.
After one or two minutes, pour one cup of powdered soap. Wait 10-15 minutes and flush your toilet. You'll discover this approach is more efficient for a very clogged toilet.
What I recommend, that works well is distilled white vinegar. As far as your toilet to keep it clean inside the bowl. Use 1 cup of white distilled vinegar and poor inside your toilet tank, also pour half of that cup in to the overflow, which is the small, round pipe that stands up in the middle of the tank .
If you're struggling to reach the bottom of your kitchen or wheelie bin, then a dishwasher tablet can help freshen it up without the hassle - providing there are no holes at the bottom of your bin. Simply fill it with as much boiling water as possible - giving it a 'bath' - before dropping a tablet in.
Scrubbing Grout and Tiles
If your grout and tiles are looking a little grimy, try using a dishwasher tablet to clean them. Wet the tiles and grout, then rub a tablet over them until it dissolves. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub it with a brush or sponge.
All you need to do is:
Either boil the kettle or use hot water from the tap to fill up your stained cups and mugs. Then add a dishwasher tablet to every marked cup and mug. Wait about an hour before you go back to empty and rinse them all out.
Don't just toss a tablet or pod into the dishwasher.
Don't just throw it in there. Instead, dishwasher tablets or pods must be placed in the detergent dispenser compartment. If the tablet is placed directly in the unit, it'll dissolve before the wash cycle even begins.
All you need to clean your oven window or the glass door is a couple of dishwasher tablets and a bowl of warm water. A dishwasher tablet and warm water helps to make a paste that you can spread onto the window. Make sure you don't get the gel pod.
As a good rule of thumb, if the tablet comes individually wrapped then yes, you should remove the plastic wrap before using. If, however, the tablet is encased in a skin of thin, transparent plastic, this should not be removed and will dissolve itself safely during the washing process.
You can approximate using dishwasher tablets to clean a shower by simply making a paste with warm water and baking soda and applying it to the shower walls and door with a cloth or sponge, such as these washable, non-scratch microfiber sponges. You can still wear rubber gloves to protect your hands if you so choose.
Add 1/2 cup vinegar to the toilet bowl, let stand a few minutes, brush, and flush. If you have hard water, let the vinegar sit for an hour, and you may have to do some light scrubbing. To remove stains, add 1/2 cup borax to the water, swish it around, and let it soak overnight.
Because water deposits build up under a toilet's rim, it can take only 24-48 hours for colonies to start breeding. As it grows, you will see what looks like black debris or rings inside the bowl. This can cause respiratory problems for people as the mold and mildew release tiny spores into the air.
The contaminants notorious for causing brown stains in toilet bowls are iron, manganese and sulfur. These pollutants can also produce iron bacteria, manganese bacteria and sulfur bacteria, which also can produce brown stains.
