Ash Ketchum finally claims Pokémon Master after two decades trying to catch 'em all. In the 139th episode of "Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon," Ash Ketchum finally "caught 'em all" and became a Pokémon Master.
As reported by Dot Esports, Ash has owned a total of 77 Pokémon - and that's if you count his 30 Tauros individually but don't count those that he captured and released shortly after like Buzzwole, Stakataka, and Pheromosa.
Ash Ketchum catches them all, becomes Pokémon Master after two decades.
The one exception to this is Meltan, which despite being a Mythical was but one of many. Many would say that Meltan's evolution Melmetal is the absolute rarest Pokémon he's captured and battled with, as it's still a Mythical Pokémon, and that's a fair point.
Tl;Dr Ash has got 57 unique pokemon species. He got 2 (Pikachu, Oshawott), Traded for 2 (Raticate, Buizel), hatched 5 (Larvitar, Phanpy, Scraggy, Noibat, and Riolu). Also, Haunter just traveled with him so not counted as catching. Thus Ash has CAUGHT [57-(2+2+5+1) = ]47 unique species.
Time and time again, Pikachu has proven why he is Ash's strongest Pokemon. Pikachu partnered up with Ash when he first began his journey in the Kanto region, and though the two got off to a rocky start, their bond eventually grew to become inseparable.
He was attempting to catch as many Pokémon as possible, though all he ended up with were thirty Tauros, since they always ran in front of his Safari Balls whenever he tried to make a catch.
Pikachu not only was his first pokémon but has stuck by his side through every journey across all regions.
Ho-Oh is the first Legendary Pokémon Ash encounters and the first Legendary to appear in the anime series.

The young boy's name is Ash Ketchum. Or, at least, it is in English-language versions. In the original Japanese, his name was Satoshi, after the creator of Pokémon, Satoshi Tajiri. He based Ash/Satoshi on his childhood self; his early fascination with catching bugs inspired the premise of Pokémon.
