in the books, the affair with Nettles is disputed. Some sources say he had an affair, other sources say Nettles was like a daughter to him. One source also swears they had separate rooms- Nettles and Damon, and Damon was indeed treating her like how daughter.
Nettles, also known as Netty was one of the dragonseeds during the Targaryen civil war known as Dance of the Dragons. She rode the wild dragon Sheepstealer, whom she tamed by using a rather unconventional method. She fought in the battle of the gullet and later became the mistress of Daemon Targaryen.
I read the book and I know that Daemon supposedly cheats on Rhaenyra with Mysaria (and possibly Nettles, depending on whose account you believe). According to the accounts, Rhaenyra is perfectly fine with the infidelity with Mysaria (although not with Nettles, who may be Daemon's lover, bastard daughter or protegee).

As seen in the fourth episode of House of the Dragon, Daemon is intimate with Rhaenyra after taking her to a brothel. In the show, there isn't any romantic love between them. Daemon uses Rhaenyra for her position, and by being the first man to be intimate with her, he ensures that no other man would want to marry her.
Throughout the series, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) has a sexually-charged relationship with her uncle (Matt Smith) which almost results in the pair having sex in episode four. At the time, Rhaenyra was 18 while Daemon is in his early 30s.

While Rhaenyra did go on to sleep with Criston Cole — the big problem of the episode — Viserys (Paddy Considine) was made more cautious of Daemon.
Soon after being widowed, Daemon and Rhaenyra marry each other in secret when he is 39 years old, and she is 23. Their marriage causes a huge scandal at court and another rift between Daemon and Viserys, but it is eventually accepted. The couple has two sons together, Aegon and Viserys.
Daemon shows wife Rhaenyra the message; she recognizes that if Luke's claim to the title is questioned, so could the legitimacy of her three sons with Harwin Strong. Daemon puts a hand on Rhaenyra's belly. She is pregnant with their child.
It was abundantly clear in the season finale that Daemon truly values Rhaenyra as the queen, and it doesn't appear to be for his own gain. All of his actions indicate that he looks to her as his leader even before she's taken power and has every intention to get her to her rightful throne.
I've made my peace." This interaction suggests Daemon still holds a flame for Rhaenyra all these years later. While Daemon may not love Laena romantically, it is clear he holds her in high regard and has a tenderness for her.
While House Of The Dragon episode 4 showed Daemon was able to seduce Rhaenyra by kissing and undressing her, he couldn't fulfill the act due to impotence.

In one of the scenes, Daemon is shown choking his wife, also the protagonist, Rhaenyra. Talking about the scene, Emma D'Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, attributed Daemon's violence to grief over Viserys' death. Emma D'Arcy stated that they knew that the scene would mark a significant shift in their relationship.
Daemon stumbles back to the Red Keep and is brought before the king, who confronts him with the White Worm's intel. Daemon, pointedly, doesn't deny that he and Rhaenyra had sex.
Rhaenyra Targaryen's love life proves to be troubled, fueling the misogyny that accepts men in her position with several lovers, but never one woman. In the book, there are hints of her lovers, and in the series, we have proof of each of them: her uncle, Daemon Targaryen, Ser Criston Cole, and soon, Ser Harwin Strong.
