Even after she learns the truth about the Darkling, his powers are such that he can elicit a response from her when he kisses her without her consent. Alina and Mal share several passionate kisses. The King has a habit of taking advantage of beautiful servants. Genya slept with him.
The Darkling, obviously slighted by Genya's betrayal, sets his Nichevo'ya on her, mauling her face and leaving her scarred.
After the King leaves, she breaks down, saying the others don't understand what she has been through. David then kisses her, and they make up. Genya later sleeps with David.
Conspiring with the Darkling
Alina recalls Genya mentioning that General Kirigan gifted her to the Queen when she was 11 years old, leaving Alina to suspect that Genya is one of General Kirigan's spies and that she poisoned the King.
Genya remains loyal to the Darkling, but his nichevo'ya mutilate her when she betrays him to help Alina escape in Siege and Storm. She joins Alina and helps in taking the King down. She marries David Kostyk and becomes a member of the Grisha Triumvirate.

Genya Safin is a Tailor, a hybrid Grisha who has the power to alter people's appearances. Because of her unique gifts she has been placed in service to the Queen of Ravka, a situation that has isolated her from other Grisha and made her an outcast among her own people.
Rather than raping or assaulting women, the Darkling tricks Alina into falling in love with him, his goal being to take Alina's power for himself and effectively enslave her.
In the books, Alina and Mal end up getting their happily ever after, but it's not without complications. After Alina successfully kills the Darkling (nearly sacrificing Mal in the process, like in the show), most of Ravka thinks they're dead. They change their names, get married, and essentially go into hiding.
But then she finds out he's actually using her to gain control of the Fold and rule the country, so she flees. Despite his nefarious plans, it is thought the Darkling did love Alina. However, Alina ends up killing him at the end of Ruin and Rising.
Due to his brother, Sanemi's criticism and his lack of power, the young and desperate Genya consumes demon flesh in order to become stronger. However, that takes away his ability to use breathing techniques, which is why Genya is unable to master swordsmanship.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, Volume 20 continues as the Demon Slayer Corps' initial confrontation with the most powerful of Muzan's demons, Kokushibo, has left Tokito severely wounded and Genya cut in half. Miraculously Genya is still alive hoping that his regenerative power can heal even his fatal wound.

Genya Shinazugawa's scar was caused by his mother who had been turned into a demon. As customary in Demon Slayer & in some other shows, the character's flashback shows up just before death knocks on their door in Chapter 114.
The Darkling had a very difficult relationship with his mother, Baghra. She told Alina that Grisha used to be heavily persecuted even in Ravka and she was always shunned for being able to summon darkness, which was an extremely rare power, and never wanted her son to suffer as she did.
During the Shadow Fold crossing, volcra attack the sandskiff, but Alina lets out a burst of light killing the volcra in order to save Malyen. Better known as the Sun Summoner, Alina is the protagonist of the series. As one of the most powerful Grisha, she is the only one capable of saving Ravka from the Fold.
While searching for the last amplifier, Mal and Alina find out the truth about Mal's heritage. He is descended from Baghra's sister, making him a great-nephew of the Darkling.
Ulla is a half-sildroher songcaster and the half-sister of The Darkling via their late mother, Baghra. She is also known as Sankta Ursula of the Waves.
A picture of him in Baghra's cave reveals the man hasn't physically aged a day in centuries. The Shadow Fold was created roughly 400 years prior to the events of the series and the Darkling was already an adult by then. An estimate would put him at 500 years of age, if not a bit older.
He sees her strong desire to belong and to find herself and it reminds him of himself. While his desire for Alina is not a healthy one and is obsessive, he truly does develop feelings for her. She is the one person who can bring balance to his life.
Shadow and Bone
It is revealed that Alina had been subconsciously suppressing her power when she was tested as a child in Keramzin for signs of Grisha ability. It was as though she knew that if she was found to be a Grisha, she would be taken away from her best friend, Mal.
For a short amount of time, he can become a demon using his bite strength and his special digestive organs." Basically, as a result of his serious gnashers and iron stomach, Genya can devour demon flesh and gain characteristics like the sharpened fangs, frosted tips, and black pupils seen in the most recent episodes.
Why does Genya eat demons? He consumes demon flesh because it allows him to temporarily gain that demon's abilities despite being a human.
3 He's Got His Own Demon Slayer Mark
After eating the cells of two Upper Ranks Demons, Genya developed a Demon Slayer Mark of his own that appeared during combat against an Upper Rank 1. His flame-like Slayer Mark helps him battle against Demons.
