Joe and recovering drug addict Marienne, who has a daughter called Juliette, met while working at the local library together. They eventually slept together, despite Joe being married to Love. Love revealed everything about Joe's murderous past to Marienne before she left for Paris and Love was killed.
Joe's psychology in Season 4
Joe: he's still in love with Marienne and could never hurt her. When the guy sent by Quinn's family asks him to kill Marienne, he gets broken and needs to come up with a serious plan. His plan is the personality dissociation: he will create an alternative personality that kidnaps Marienne.
Marienne ended up fleeing to Paris with her daughter after her ex-husband was murdered and she realized that Joe did it. Marienne and Joe ended up becoming an item during You Season 3, despite outside factors.
Joe, who loves nothing more than showing women what a good guy he is, lets her walk away. Then, when a crooked private investigator (Adam James) hired by Love's family urges Joe to eliminate Marienne, Joe tricks the man instead. Joe steals Marienne's necklace as proof he killed her.
At the end of season 3, Marienne runs away once she discovers Joe and Love's disturbing behavior. So, he's left alone. But he leaves the United States to start a new life (yet again), and as revealed in the final moments of the finale, follows Marienne to Paris.
But Joe has managed to hold onto a shred of his old self: He's become obsessed with his gorgeous, bookish next-door neighbor Natalie Engler (Michaela McManus). And now Joe can pop Henry into the car seat, stroller, or Baby Björn and head out on his stalking expeditions.
Can anyone stop Joe Goldberg? Yes. For the first time, there is a major, major crack in Joe's armor: he does not know that Marianne is alive. Marianne's disgust reading Joe's sob story, juxtaposed against Joe's narration believing she died, is one of the best moments in the ending of the You Season 4, Part 2 finale.
Released earlier in February, the new season of Netflix's 'You' has once again got fans talking about protagonist Joe Goldberg's condition – erotomania. Goldberg, a character played by actor Penn Badgley, is a bookstore manager who has a delusional obsession with a new woman each season.
Emma and her friends vanquished the witch they had accidentally summoned in a ceremony as kids. Then, Emma finds out she got pregnant after sleeping with Seby (Ralph Amoussou), a married childhood friend and a new father.
Because… he's actually a figment of Joe's increasingly splintered mind. It's a surprise that leaves even Joe reeling — and his brain created “Rhys.” So you definitely deserve an explanation.
Love definitely had something to say about that, though, and when she found out about her husband's affair, quickly warned Marienne about the fact Joe killed Ryan to be with Marienne.
Biography. Joe is a loner bookstore manager who becomes infatuated with a woman named Guinevere Beck and begins to stalk her to find out everything about her and hopefully make her fall in love with him. However, his obsession soon becomes out of control when he starts trying to control every aspect of her life.
Rhys was a projection of Joe's dark side throughout You season 4. The actual Rhys was a seemingly innocent and kind man. However, his affiliation with politics made him the perfect person for Joe to frame.
After a tumultuous few years for the two of them, the last episode sees Connell and Marianne living happily together at Trinity College, Dublin.
He saw Love's impulse to get rid of anyone who stood in her way as barbaric or senseless without taking a step back to look at his own actions. At the end of the day, Joe is no better than Love.
But what happens to Love and Joe's baby Henry in Season 3 of “You”? Before he jets off to Europe, Joe leaves his son in the care of his colleague at the library, Dante. Dante and his husband Lansing had been trying for a child, and Joe writes them a letter saying he hopes that together they will raise Henry.
Gains strength through writing: When Emma Larsimon was about the same age Lucie was when she died, Marianne visited her in her dreams to tell her to dream about her constantly and write about her so she can become stronger and that Emma can "wake her" one day.
Emma stumbled upon Marianne's grave as a child and the spirit bonded to her, haunting her so that it could someday break her psyche down and possess her fully.
Inspector Ronan finds Emma's father; he is now in a coma in hospital after being found in an abandoned building surrounded by witch charms. Emma finds her mom stabbed to death and Daugeron laughing with the knife. Enraged, she strangles Daugeron, who warns that Marianne will just possess someone close to her.
Scott did say, though, that the closest clinical diagnosis to a "psychopath" or "sociopath" is antisocial personality disorder, and that Goldberg does indeed show some hallmark traits of the disorder. He also demonstrates characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder, experts say.
Another challenging part was blocking out her time in the cage. She was in there for about 30 days, is what we had talked about, Sera [Gamble, creator and showrunner] and I. Thirty?! Oh my god.
Trivia. Due to season 4 being an original creation from Netflix, Rhys is an original character created for the show, since he makes no appearances in the books. Although since the evil version of Rhys was just a split personality of Joe Goldberg, he could have exist, if his killings were involved violently in the books ...
