But, surprisingly, both Queen Maeve and Soldier Boy survive. Maeve, now powerless (Soldier Boy's radiation removed the Compound V in her system, just like it did to Kimiko), is also free to live the life she always wanted with her girlfriend Elena.
However, she escaped with The Boys' help, and lost her powers from fighting Soldier Boy. She reunites with Elena and the two go into hiding, pleased with having a chance at starting a new life far away from Homelander and Vought.
In the comics, Queen Maeve was just like her television counterpart — a jaded alcoholic who wanted nothing more than to see Homelander die. But, unlike in the television show, Maeve doesn't survive her confrontation with Homelander in the comics. Instead, she sacrifices herself so that Starlight can survive.
Homelander and Black Noir later team up to kidnap Maeve, which sidelines her even further and robs her of the little agency she had. As a result, The Boys season 3 doesn't devote anywhere near enough character development to Mave and reduced her to a plot device.
Superhuman Strength: Queen Maeve is one of the strongest members of The Seven, only behind Homelander and Black Noir.
“Homelander is basically the weakest character in the show. So he's constantly covering that up and covering up the fact that he's actually incredibly vulnerable, and ultimately weak, even though he's the physically strongest person on the show.” Starr admits.
In the comics, Black Noir is a long-time member of the Seven, almost always shown in silhouette with his face obscured. His powers include super strength and supposed skills as a pilot. He is stronger than even Homelander; Mother's Milk states he can "[...] bench a dozen Mack trucks".
Maeve manages to give Butcher three vials of Temp-V or V-24, levelling the playing field by giving its user powers for 24 hours. But all in vain. Maeve gets more V-24 to Butcher and feeling dejected and defeated, the two get drunk and have sex, which left everyone shocked.
Homelander and Stormfront made a villainous pairing. Yet, the comics portrayed a sexual relationship between Queen Maeve and Stormfront.
"Maeve is going to learn she's pregnant with Butcher's child. She was ready for everything to be over and ready and willing to die... but she's gonna have to rethink everything after learning she's pregnant.
She is at first rejoiced at being selected, however is later sexually assaulted when the Deep extorts her into performing oral sex on him in "The Name of the Game" in order for her to stay on the team.
Kimiko has already expressed this season that she wished she never had powers and yearned for a normal life; it's clearer than ever that she hates being a killer and hates the violence she's capable of. She got her wish after her encounter with Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3, episode 4 left her powerless and injured.
This episode epitomizes just how much Queen Maeve is the unsung hero of The Boys. Not only does she horrifically lose an eye in battle with Homelander, but she realizes that Soldier Boy is about to explode radiation that'll kill everyone.
In Kripke's words: "It is right narratively for [Maeve] to exit stage left because she was too powerful, and she solved too many of Starlight's problems for her. For Starlight to truly flower into the powerful character she is, she needs to remove all of her life preservers.
Queen Maeve's story ended with season 3, but it can carry on with the debut of her son in The Boys season 4.
Maeve had gone into hiding after sustaining some hefty injuries during the fight at Vought Towers. Soldier Boy, on the other hand, was put back on ice by Mallory to neutralize his threat. "We definitely won't reach the end of the series without seeing Maeve again," Kripke told Deadline.
In “Episode 2,” Maeve realizes she is pregnant after secretly hooking up with sports star Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling). After the revelation, she continues having sex with Jackson during “2.”
Maeve had five known husbands and ruled for over 60 years, an extremely impressive stint for that period of time. Medb was believed to have many children. A druid foretold that one of her sons named Maine would fulfil a prophecy to defeat her greatest enemy (and former husband) King Conchobar.
It was this that prompted her to work with the Boys and help them by installing several bugs in The Seven's headquarters. Maeve is eventually killed while protecting Starlight from Homelander and Black Noir. Although Homelander easily overpowered her, Maeve's sacrifice bought enough time for Starlight to escape.
In Garth Ennis' original comic books, a huge number of supes are capable of flight compared to the TV show. By bringing that number right down, Homelander begins to look even more special and unique among his own kind. Unfortunately, that means Queen Maeve having her wings clipped.
After Homelander, Maeve is perhaps the strongest of Supes on The Boys. She has immense physical power, so much so that when she was younger she punched a falling school bus and only suffered a few broken bones in her arm.
Soldier Boy is a villainous parody of the Marvel comics superhero Captain America and antihero The Winter Soldier. Just like Captain America, he fought in WWII, uses a shield and became a hero before "dying" only to be found alive decades later and be placed in the modern world.
During Payback's fight against Soldier Boy, Black Noir received catastrophic brain injuries that left him both unable to verbally communicate and saddled with bizarre hallucinations of cartoon animals.
Starlight is a parody of both Doctor Light and Stargirl as well Mary Marvel costume with little Powergirl-influenced outfit.
However, viewers will likely wonder why Black Noir's healing powers have not helped him recover from these injuries. He has healed from a variety of severe injuries throughout the duration of The Boys, but Black Noir's scars are too severe for even him to overcome.
