The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations depicts the lightsaber as being stored in a box in Yoda's Hut by the time of the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. The Star Wars franchise is building a mystery around who saved Grogu during Order 66, and it could be revealed that Mace Windu helped protect the child. From the time The Mandalorian revealed Grogu's existence, questions about the young Force user's past have risen.
Grogu will not follow the path of the Jedi. That much was clear after the character's appearance on The Book of Boba Fett, where he chose to leave with the Mandalorian rather than train with Luke Skywalker and wield Yoda's lightsaber.
This brings us to the other explanation for Luke having Yoda's little saber in Boba Fett: Yoda built a second lightsaber after his duel with Palpatine and kept it hidden on Dagobah.
