The answer is obvious: the colony dies. Ants won't flee to another territory if their queen passes away. Instead, they continue bringing resources back to the settlement until they die of old age or external causes. A healthy colony can survive for months without a queen. The colony will continue to live as it did with the queen, but the only problem is that egg production ceases. Without the queen, there won't be any changes to the directives given to the worker ants so they will just continue to collect food.
The queen is responsible for reproduction, while workers maintain the colony—caring for the young, foraging and hunting for food, cleaning, and defending the nest. In many insect societies, when the queen dies, the entire colony dies along with her due to the lack of reproduction.
However, if you don't kill the queen and just kill the workers, the queen will simply continue to lay eggs, and the colony will continue, sometimes for many years, until she eventually dies naturally. This is why, if you want to exterminate an ant colony, you have to kill the queen.
In monogynous ants, the queen is a “vital organ” of the society, and her movement during an emigration is likely to occur when the old nest is no longer suitable for the colony and the new nest is incomplete and not fully fortified.
