If You Have a Round Face: Round faces are identifiable by full, wide cheeks. For these face shapes, straight bangs are a big no-no, as they accentuate your face's fullness. But bangs can still look great with your face shape. Instead of straight bangs, go for thick, side-swept bangs that are cut at a strong angle.
Having a chubby face shouldn't stop you from rocking a haircut with bangs. In fact, bangs can ease out the puffiness of your chubby face and make it appear slimmer. Side-swept bangs cut at an angle make a chubby face look slender. Wispy bangs and piece-y, long fringe bangs are equally flattering chubby face bangs.
Square or heart-shaped faces look best with wispier, feathered fringe to add softness. Oblong face shapes are a perfect match for blunt-cut bangs. Round faces can get added dimension from side-swept or curtain bangs. Oval-shaped faces can pull off just about any type of bang.
According to Luke, if you have a longer forehead, you can get away with every type of fringe, including really thick, full style. However, if you have a short forehead, then the closest you want to go to a fringe is a grown out curtain bang or something a little longer than doesn't cover your whole forehead.
'Anyone can pull off a fringe,' says hairstylist Paul Edmonds, 'but they have to be adapted to the shape of the face. Many assume that fringes need to be hard and blunt but this style doesn't work with all face shapes, there are so many styles of fringes that can be tailored to each face.
"Fringes can soften facial features, and help conceal an aging forehead, so yes, in a way they can make you look younger," confirms stylist Barney Martin, hair director and owner of Barney Martin salons, NSW. The key is to pick the 'right' fringe for your face shape.
Adding bangs to the hairstyle will help shape your face and make you appear much younger. The best part about layers and bangs is that they work for any type of hairstyle, from long locks to shorter styles. Either way, with the right cut, they will add personality to your look and highlights your best features.
Bangs can be flattering for any face shape if they are the right ones. A side-swept bang looks great on round or square faces. Straight across bangs look good on heart-shaped or oval faces.
'Pretty much everyone suits a fringe, it's all about where the fringe ends,' says pro hairstylist Zoe Irwin. 'Whether it's a long fringe that accentuates the cheek bones or brow skimming, the most important thing is working it to fit the face shape and the jaw line. '
While blunt bangs can make round faces look a little squat, side-swept bangs move the eyes diagonally across your face. The angled fringe helps make your face appear longer and, therefore, thinner.
The main difference between bangs and fringes is that the terms are typically used in various places across the world. 'Bangs' is a very American term, whereas everywhere else tends to use 'fringe'. That being said, you'll probably hear 'bangs' being used across the UK, and you can thank American YouTubers for that!
Do bangs flatter every face shape? “The most flattering bangs create an oval face shape,” says Townsend. So, if you naturally have an ovular face, you have a larger variety of bang styles to choose from. If your face is square or oblong, “You'll want to try A-shaped bangs or longer layers,” he says.
Round Faces
What to avoid: It's all about staying away from both extremes of the spectrum. One-length cuts are too angular, which emphasizes the roundness of the face shape. But over-softening a round face shape with too many layers will only enhance the rounded effect.
Classic layers can keep your hair looking on-trend and stylish, while also flattering the soft angles of round faces. "A medium-length, shaggy hair style accented with side bangs that hit at the cheekbones is a great look for a round face," says Nunzio Saviano, hairstylist and owner of Nunzio Saviano Salon.
Stylists recommend medium-length or longer hair for a round face because it elongates your face shape. Keeping your hair below the chin draws attention away from the jaw line.
The answer to the question is a resounding yes! Bangs are fun and youthful, sure, but they're also sophisticated and look good on everyone, whether your hair is curly, straight, short, long, or in between. The important thing is to find a style of bangs that works for you and your lifestyle.
"It's a misconception that bangs will make you look slimmer. Your face really starts from your eye line; you can eat and eat and you won't see your forehead getting wider. Instead, cut bangs gently around your face and cheekbones and watch out for bangs cut too short."
KEEP FRINGES SOFT AND ANGLED
'While fringes can be an attractive choice to conceal forehead wrinkles, a horizontal, block fringe will add to the square appearance of the face while a soft sweeping and textured fringe can take the edge of the corners of the face and look much more flattering.
Does short or long hair make you look younger? Long hair can enhance facial features by diverting attention away from wrinkles or age spots and adding volume to your hair. Short hair does not need to age you, though, as the style and texture of shorter hairstyles can add a youthful appearance.
Should women over 60 have bangs? Absolutely. Bangs can be worn in many ways and look classy, flirty, or even edgy. Bangs feel youthful and frame your face while making your hair look fuller.
Bangs that meet the top of your frames is an extra high fashion look, in our opinion. Grow out your bangs and keep them sitting right where your glasses start to create this look. With these chic hairstyles, you have every reason to wear bangs with glasses. Go ahead and get the fringe you've always wanted.
