Newborns who sleep for longer stretches should be awakened to feed. Wake your baby every 3–4 hours to eat until he or she shows good weight gain, which usually happens within the first couple of weeks. After that, it's OK to let your baby sleep for longer periods of time at night.
There is no ideal time interval to check on a baby when they're sleeping. Most parents work out a pattern of checking which suits them and helps them to feel reassured. As a general guide, checking every 15-30 minutes is reasonable for very young babies and children.
Never leave your baby alone in your home. So gardening, nipping out to the shops, or collecting someone from the station are all no-nos. You may prefer to time your shower or chores for when your baby usually takes a nap. This is, of course, much easier once your baby has an established routine of feeding and sleeping.

The second night is when the exhaustion really hits [for parents].” Night two can bring a lot of crying.

Causes of overstimulation in babies

The longer you hold your baby, the better. Any amount of time is good, but it is best to try for at least 1 to 2 hours each day.
The amount of sleep an infant gets at any one stretch of time is mostly ruled by hunger. Newborns will wake up and want to be fed about every three to four hours at first. Do not let your newborn sleep longer than five hours at a time in the first five to six weeks.
Background Noise Is Harmful to Learning
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that children under the age of 2 not watch any television. But let's be real, sometimes it might feel pretty tempting to turn on PBS Kids and let those lovable monsters talk about the ABCs while you try to get some things done.
Direct screen time is a concern from the very beginning, though, so keep an eye on how much your baby is actually staring at any media – the American Academy of Pediatrics discourages any screen time at all for children younger than 18 months.
Common health problems in babies include colds, coughs, fevers, and vomiting. Babies also commonly have skin problems, like diaper rash or cradle cap. Many of these problems are not serious. It is important to know how to help your sick baby, and to know the warning signs for more serious problems.

Newborns or babies who are overstimulated might: be cranky or tired. seem upset or turn their heads away. move in a jerky way.
When they enter the world they stick to their instincts and can't tell the difference between night and day. That's why babies eat, sleep, and poop all day. It doesn't matter if it's 1 am or 1 pm, they just go off of their natural urges and get what they need in the moment regardless if you're awake or not.

The survey found that the majority of new parents are getting between 5 and 6 hours of sleep each night. Sadly, no surprises there. On average, each new parent loses a staggering 109 minutes of sleep every night for the first year after having a baby.
“Second night syndrome” is a perfectly normal response to being born, and most babies experience a bit of fussiness on their second night of life. It doesn't mean that anything is wrong or that your baby is starving. It can feel overwhelming, but there ARE some things you can do to help survive the second night!
