Jesus asked Peter "Do you love me?" three time as recorded in the gospel of John 21:15-17.

“If you love me, you will obey my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God.
Where in the Bible Does Jesus Ask Peter “Do You Love Me”? This conversation occurs in John 21, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee after the Resurrection. It was a place that they were all familiar with, and Jesus had spent much time there with these fishermen.
The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.
[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. [24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
It is the inspired revelation of God's love for all men of all time (Psalm 19:7–8; 1 Corinthians 2:9–16). Where does the Bible say He loves us? Jesus said, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you” (John 15:9). “For the love of Christ constraineth us” (2 Corinthians 5:14).
God's love is shown by justifying us (or declaring us innocent) by grace through faith in Christ. Christ is treated as if he were the sinner, and the sinner is treated as if he were the righteous one. God now sees us through Christ's righteousness instead of through our sin.
Our God does. Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 1 John 4:10 – Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Of course, Jesus had taught that his followers must love him more than they loved anyone else, but this teaching refers primarily to family and the common endearing human relationships.
Jesus taught that the two greatest commandments were to: “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbour as yourself.” Love for all people was at the very centre of Jesus' message.
Matthew 22:36-40
He replied, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.'"
1 Corinthians 13:4-5: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
For as 1 John 4:19 tells us, “we love because he first loved us.” It is the effectual love of God that first changes our hearts in order to make us capable of love, and it is His example of love that reminds us again and again of our need to love other people.
This week we begin with Jesus' question, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asks this question twice in the span of 15 verses. He first asks this question to his disciples James and John in 10:36, and they respond by asking for power and glory.

The other three stanzas by Warner, which are the three most popular of all, have the second lines “For the Bible tells me so,” “Heaven's gate to open wide,” and “Close beside me all the way.”
God loves Jesus more than He loves us. Jesus is God's first love. In Jesus' prayer that we are privileged to overhear, He says to God, the Father: “You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24).
Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
In the Gospel of Mary, part of the New Testament apocrypha – specifically the Nag Hammadi library – a certain Mary who is commonly identified as Mary Magdalene is constantly referred to as being loved by Jesus more than the others.
So, not only does the 153 big fishes refer to the 153000 constructors of the first temple, it also means "a very large unknown number". This is also coherent with the first observation of one of the apostles when looking inside the net: there was a multitude of fishes. But why the first temple of Solomon?
The 21st chapter of the Gospel of John presents us with a scene that has commonly been read as the counterpart of Peter's three acts of denial. Interestingly, whereas all four Gospels include Peter's denial, only the Gospel of John includes this scene, in which Jesus asks Peter “do you love me?” three times.
