Newborn Upfront Payment and Newborn Supplement
The Newborn Upfront Payment is a lump sum payment of $575 (amount correct April 2022). This amount is not taxable. To be able to receive the Upfront Payment you must be eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A and must not be receiving Parental Leave Pay for the same child.
Baby bonus dissolution
On 1 March 2014, when the Baby Bonus Scheme is finally put to bed after more than 13 years and replaced changes to Family Tax Benefit Schedule A, it will have left a legacy in terms of the generation it created.
The amount of Baby Bonus currently payable is $5,000 per eligible child and it is made in 13 fortnightly instalments. The first instalment is paid at a higher rate of $846.20 and the other 12 fortnights are paid at a rate of $346.15. The Baby Bonus is paid at the same rate to all families considered eligible.
For the 2021-22 financial year, it's a payment of up to $788.40 for each eligible child. For the 2022-23 financial year, it's a payment of up to $817.60 for each eligible child.
The amount you get depends on how many children you have and your family's income. For your first child, the maximum total amount you can receive is $1,785.42 for the 13 weeks. For subsequent children the maximum total amount is $596.05 for the 13 weeks.
If you're a new parent who qualifies for the full credit and immediately updates your information to include your newborn in September, then you'll receive $300 each month from October through December. The payments for July through September ($900 total) will be applied when you file taxes in 2022.

Payment methods
We make the Family Allowance payment on the 1st working day of each quarter, that is, four times a year: in July for July, August and September. in October for October, November and December. in January for January, February and March.
Family Tax Benefit Part A pays a maximum of $191.24 per fortnight for children up to 12, and $248.78 per fortnight for children up to 19, if they are eligible. The amount you get depends on your income and the ages and number of children in your care.

If you're single
$251.80 plus $24.60 for each extra child. If your income is over the cut-off point of $2,537.60 a fortnight, we pay you $0 for that fortnight. The cut-off point increases by $24.60 per child if you have more than one child. If you're Age Pension age or older, the income limit may be different.
From 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, the maximum Work Bonus balance limit increases from $7,800 to $11,800. This will reset to $7,800 on 1 January 2024. You'll also get a one-off increase of $4,000 to your Work Bonus balance during this period.
Expecting parents can receive a one-time Baby Support Grant of $3,000 if their child's due date or estimated delivery date falls between 1 October 2020 and 30 September 2022.
