Known only as “Puppy” in the original book, he is discovered by Alice after shrinking to a tiny size and escaping to the White Rabbit's garden. Though he appears gigantic to Alice, he is actually normally sized. While in the garden, she plays with him briefly but fears being trampled.
In the book, when Alice shrinks to a tiny size, and escapes into the White Rabbit's garden, she finds the Puppy (now apparently enormous to her, but actually a normal sized dog) and briefly plays with him, and compares it to "a game of play with a cart-horse, and expecting every moment to be trampled under his feet".
Dinah is Alice's little pet kitten. She has appeared in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and in Disney's Alice in Wonderland where she was voiced by Mel Blanc and Kingdom Hearts.
