Nutella® contains palm oil because it is the best option to ensure that the product has the right texture and structure, and because it does not interfere with the characteristic taste of the other ingredients.
The palm oil in Nutella® is carefully treated during processing, making it perfectly safe to ingest. The palm oil we use in Nutella® is 100% RSPO certified sustainable palm oil and can be traced back to the mills, guaranteeing that it does not come from plantations subject to deforestation.
The ingredients in both the European and American versions include sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, and vanillin, which is an artificial flavor. Where the two jars differ, Serious Eats states that it is possibly with their hazelnut and milk content. The Italian version is made of 13% hazelnuts and 5% milk.

Plain chocolate and coated chocolate does not contain any. Lindt chocolate does contain a proportion of palm oil in some of its fillings, but lists the ingredient as "vegetable fats/oils". Plain Lindt chocolate does not contain any palm oil.
However, Maltesers chocolates are not suitable for vegans and they do contain palm oil which some people choose to avoid due to its links to deforestation.

Apart from the majority of soaps, cleaners and shampoos on the market containing palm oil, many people are shocked to learn that Arnott's Tim Tams also contain palm oil. In fact, palm oil is so widely used in consumer products that it is increasingly difficult to avoid.
Allen's is owned by Nestle. Most products in their line do contain palm oil, but it is labeled as vegetable oil without further clarification as to “what kind” of vegetable oils are being used.
