Hurt and disoriented, Barb woke up in the Upside Down's version of the pool, which was empty. Upon noticing the Demogorgon, she screamed, alerting his attention and she tried to climb out of the pool. The Demogorgon sadistically allowed Barb to almost leave, but dragged her back into the pool and mauled her to death.
In season 2, Nancy and Jonathan Byers (Charles Heaton) work together and figure out that Barb couldn't escape the Upside Down, and they make sure that the town mourns Barb with a real funeral.
Barb's death implied that whatever the slug does didn't take, so the Mind Flayer reached out to Will instead. It could be that the Mind Flayer needed a younger host, or Barb may have simply died while the Demogorgon was attempting to infect her.
Episode 3 finds Barb waking up in the Upside Down, where she is attacked by the Demogorgon. Nancy searches for Barb and alerts the police. In episode 7, Eleven uses a makeshift sensory deprivation tank to search for Will and Barb in the Upside Down via telepathy, where she finds Barb dead.
Seeing as Barb served as a symbol of innocence, viewers were upset about her sudden death. A "Justice for Barb" movement came together after the character was killed, and seemingly forgotten by the town by the end of Stranger Things season 1.
A few days later, Eleven, while immersed in a deep psychic state, scoured the Upside Down to find Barb and Will Byers. She discovered Barb's body, witnessing a slug-like creature slithering from Barb's mouth and across her face.
He went on to explain that the point of Barb's character was merely to illuminate how vulnerable everyone actually was to the Upside Down and the Demogorgon. Matarazzo continued: "That was what the character was, and I think that bringing her back would kind of defeat the purpose."
Nancy becomes involved in the investigation after Barbara disappears while Nancy is having sex with Steve. Due to her guilt for abandoning Barbara and her motivation to find out what happened to her friend, Nancy meets up with Jonathan to discuss Will and Barbara's disappearance.
Barb cries out for Nancy - flash to the regular world, where Nancy and Steve are kissing passionately on Steve's bed to Foreigner's "I've Been Waiting For a Girl Like You" (ugh that's a great song), clearly a moment away from The Deed - and for a moment, Nancy hesitates, as if she heard the cry.
In episode 7, Vecna is revealed to be Henry Creel (played as a youngster by Raphael Luce), the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund) and his wife Virginia (Tyner Rushing) shown in the 1950s flashbacks.
Vecna's first big credited kill was Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien). He followed that murder with canonically terrible driver Fred Benson (Logan Riley Bruner) and basketball star Patrick McKinney (Myles Truitt). But wait, there's more.
Many theorized she was—spoiler alert—still alive and would make it out of the Upside Down, and they had pretty convincing evidence to back the idea up. But unfortunately, Justice for Barb isn't going to happen.
Vecna was the one who originally kidnapped Will in season 1.
Nancy still feeling guilty for death of her best friend, Barbara.
Rafael Barba returns for the season finale. Law & Order: SVU will see a familiar face returning to the series for the upcoming season 23 finale as Raúl Esparza returns to reprise his role as Rafael Barba.
After getting pushed around by Steve (who is clearly threatened by Jonathan's obvious crush on Nancy), Nancy sees the Demogorgon in the photo with Barb. Together the teenagers start their own hunt for whatever took both Barb and Will.
Chrissy Cunningham
Then her bones started breaking and it became true horror. Of course, she was not the only victim, but as the first, Chrissy's death is easily the most shocking. Along with his human nature, Vecna's brutality in killing Chrissy and the others is what established him as the series' best villain.
Powers and Abilities. Nancy Wheeler is the former girlfriend of Steve Harrington and the current girlfriend of Jonathan Byer in the supernatural-drama series Stranger Things.
One of the theories could be that Will has some supernatural powers that caused the monster to be lured to him even though he wasn't injured. That could also be the reason he could communicate with his mother using the lights.
Nancy Cared About Steve More
Nancy chose to remain with Steve rather than accompanying Barb home, despite her friend having hurt herself. It could be argued that Nancy cared about her boyfriend more, as she disregarded the feelings of her friend. Barb promises to chaperone Nancy when they go to Steve's party.
Steve's relationship with Nancy is stressed, and he breaks up with her after she will not say she loves him. He calls her out after her drunken tirade at a party, during which she called their relationship fake.
After season 4 volume 2 premiered in July 2022, many fans were curious to see if there would be a Steve and Nancy reunion, as Steve confesses he still has feelings for Nancy.
Trivia. The Demogorgon Dungeons & Dragons figure, used by Eleven to symbolize the Monster. The Demogorgon received its nickname from Eleven using the Demogorgon game piece from a Dungeons & Dragons set to show that Will was hiding from the creature in her vision of The Upside Down.
(Stranger Things 04x09)
Will Byers: Will was found in the Upside Down with a tendril extending down his throat following his capture by the original Demogorgon (see Stage Six below). A month after returning home, Will coughed up a larva and washed it down his bathroom sink drain.
