Lochia is the vaginal discharge you have after giving birth. It contains a mix of blood, mucus and uterine tissue. It has a stale, musty odor like menstrual period discharge and can last several weeks. Lochia is heavy at first but gradually subsides to a lighter flow until it goes away.
In the first six weeks after delivery, you'll go through the three stages of lochia. Lochia is the mixture of blood, mucus, tissue and everything else you've had in your uterus for the past nine months. It smells similar to your period, but might have some sour, stale, musty or metallic notes.
Room begins to smell of a mix of sweat and vaginal mucus. Urine is sprayed everywhere when securing catheter bag.” They have to take you off the epidural once you are ready to deliver so you can feel when to push. Luckily the effects of the epidural linger for a bit so it is not so bad at first.
When you're 10 cm dilated there is usually no gap between them. Many birth workers recognize an earthy or musky smell that women have when they are entering transition (the stage before pushing when the cervix is dilated). There is also the telltale purple line, which extends along the cleft between your buttocks.
Clary Sage Oil – a few drops on your inner ankles can help to induce more effective contractions and help with the process of labour. Great for a labour pain soother. Myrrh Oil – inhaling the aroma can encourage normal labour. Mandarin or Lime Oil – a drop on a tissue as a refreshing scent.
This newborn smell will typically start to fade at around 6 weeks.
'The vagina has a natural bacterial flora that's there to keep a good balance,' explains Dr Rosén. It's because of this natural bacteria that the cervical mucus in the vagina always has a smell.
In simple terms, 1 cm is about one finger's width, and 3 cm is the width of two fingers. 4 cm dilated is when the two fingers are approximately 1 cm apart. The widest stretch of the two fingers is about 7 to 8 cm.
During the transition phase of labor, the cervix dilates to the following sizes: 8 cm, the size of an apple. 9 cm, the size of a donut. 10 cm, the size of a large bagel.
While the experience is different for everyone, labor typically feels like extremely strong menstrual cramps that get progressively more and more intense as time goes on1.
They recognize people, places and things by their scent.
That means that when you hold your baby or enter their room, they may recognize you not by how you look, but how you smell.
Clothing. Fresh underwear, a clean shirt, and a pair of socks should be sufficient to keep you feeling clean and ready for anything. It also might be wise to include a warm sweatshirt in case the room is a little cool. Parents in labor often feel warm and may turn the thermostat down in order to keep cool.
Clitoral Stimulation After Birth
There is no reason that you can't have an orgasm as soon as you feel healed and comfortable enough after birth.
How long do first periods after delivery last? Most women return to their normal cycle soon after giving birth. If your period was 'normal' prior to pregnancy, it will occur every 21 to 35 days post pregnancy, while the bleeding may last anywhere between 2 to 7 days.
When your baby is ready to begin the journey through the birth canal, your cervix dilates from fully closed to 10 centimeters. This process can take hours, days, or even weeks. But once you hit active labor – about 6 cm dilated – it's usually just a matter of hours before you reach full dilation.
Doctors have to wait until the cervix is at least 4 centimeters dilated before doing an epidural. Otherwise, the epidural will slow the process down too much. However, once the cervix becomes fully dilated it is too late for an epidural to be given.
Early dilation often feels like menstrual cramps as the cervical changes cause pain and cramping noticed in the lower part of the uterus. It is the same sensation and location as menstrual cramps. Active labor tends to be felt in a larger area but can be a similar sensation as cramping (with more intensity of course).
Semen has a faint smell that varies from person to person. Lasting changes to the smell of semen can be a sign of an underlying medical condition. For example, a strong foul or fishy smell can be a sign of infection or a sexually transmitted condition. See a doctor if these changes occur.
What is cervical stimulation? Cervical stimulation means touching your cervix in a way that gives you pleasure. Stimulating the cervix with a finger, sex toy, or penis can feel really good and even lead to an orgasm. But it can also feel neutral, annoying, or painful.
The smell may change, too. The smell is sometimes described as insipid – a bit like sperm. If you have symptoms that are not normal, such as a very different or unpleasant-smelling discharge, you should see a doctor. The symptoms may be caused by an infection in the vagina, fungal infection or bacterial vaginosis.
Babytalk | A baby's bond with its mother may start with the sense of smell. One of my favorite things to do is show mothers how their baby can smell them from as far away as 1 to 2 feet.
Generally, there's some kind of a pleasant, sweet, slightly cheesy odor that accompanies a newborn in the first few weeks of his life — but the specific notes vary from baby to baby. One mom will say her little one smells like a combination of soap, milk and fresh bread.
