In general, God does not punish sin with sickness, because the cross has dealt with the penalty of sin once and for all. To take that further, the cross has rendered death a conquered enemy (I Cor. 15).
"Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth." The Good News: Whether you need physical, emotional or mental healing, God is here to provide that for you. He will never leave nor forsake you.
Jeremiah 33:6 - God brings healing
Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. Although we are aware that complete physical healing may not occur in this lifetime, we also know that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives.
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man: and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him” (James 5:14-15).
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
What's referred to as the “seven deadly sins” are: lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, wrath, envy, and pride.
Healing For My Long Time Illness
I come to You now asking that You would work a full recovery in my body - whatever is causing this persistent problem. I pray that You would, in Your mercy, give me back the health and strength I need. Guide me along the path that You have planned for me.
James 5:14-15
“If any of you are sick, they should call for the elders of the church, and the elders should pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. Prayer that comes from faith will heal the sick, for the Lord will restore them to health.
Matthew 18: 21-22 21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
The Bible affirms a general connection between sickness and sin—that death, disease, and decay were not part of God's original design for human beings. Beyond that, it is hard to generalize, since some illness does result from sin, some from being sinned against, and most through no fault of the patient.
Jesus said: “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick”—Matthew 9:12. For any one who is sick or a pregnant woman who needs medical attention but refuses a medical treatment is acting in ignorance of the Divine Providence.
Who forgives all your sins, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you [lavishly] with lovingkindness and tender mercy; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the [soaring] eagle.
For Christians, health itself is a virtue that makes possible our presence to one another in health, sickness and suffering. Health, like all the virtues, is a reflection of the love of God. Indeed, a Christian view of health does not deny that some among us are sick and who will need care.
Luke 5:31-32 New Century Version (NCV)
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy people who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to invite good people but sinners to change their hearts and lives.”
God has placed you right where you are to best glorify him. You know the Great Physician and you are his healing hands. His power to heal can flow through you to others in very practical ways. You know the limitations of medicine that often fail to bring healing to many of these finite bodies.
Even if you are not physically present to those you are praying for, Jesus is not limited in his power to hear and respond. If your illness is not contagious and you are taking the appropriate medical steps toward healing, there is no reason not to pray over others.
and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
In Psalm 147:3, God is reminding us that His power is unlimited. He is mighty enough to heal all wounds no matter when or how they occurred in our lives. Our pain is not beyond His tremendous power. He is the Great Physician, able to reach into our pasts and heal our souls.
Be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; heal me according to your will; and help me always to believe that what happens to me here is of little account if you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God. Amen.
God cares about you, and He wants you to be healed, healthy, and well! The Bible answers this question very clearly. Exodus 15:26 says, “I am the Lord who heals you.” First Peter 2:24 says that by the whipping Jesus received, “you were healed.” Psalm 107:20 tells us, “He sent His Word and healed [us].”
Of the seven deadly sins, theologians and philosophers reserve a special place for pride. Lust, envy, anger, greed, gluttony and sloth are all bad, the sages say, but pride is the deadliest of all, the root of all evil, and the beginning of sin.
There are three sins that lie behind discontent—pride, rebellion and unbelief. These are the original sins of the devil and his angels. They are sins that come from hell itself, and they continue in hell forever.
All Sin is not the Same
In fact, the Book of Proverbs (6:16-19) identifies seven things that God hates although there is not any punishment proscribed for those. Scripture clearly indicates that God does view sin differently and that He proscribed a different punishment for sin depending upon its severity.
Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
