In Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comics of the same name, The Boys start taking Compound V almost immediately, while Butcher injects Hughie on their first mission against Teenage Kix. Although Hughie is angry at Butcher, he soon comes to accept his powers (which are permanent) of improved strength and durability.
The two most obvious differences in Hughie's powers (besides how and when he got them in The Boys timeline) are that his powers in the show are temporary, and in the comics, he can't teleport. Hughie doesn't take a dose of full Compound-V in the show.
The Boys season 3 briefly gave both Hughie and Butcher super powers via Temp V, but season 4 must make these powers permanent for numerous reasons. While The Boys season 3 gave Hughie and Butcher superpowers via an injection of Temp V, season 4 of the show now needs to make these powers permanent for numerous reasons.
In the original comic title created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, each member of The Boys is injected with an engineered variant of Compound V to permanently give them enhanced strength, durability and a longer natural lifespan (though Mother's Milk and the Female already had their powers through ...
He is described as having a strong connection with both Female and Billy, however, he has killer instincts and his anger is hard to reign in once provoked. Similar to Female of the Species, the Frenchman's use of Compound V has given him abilities such as increased strength, smell and increased durability.
Though Hughie can punch through body armor, Hughie's slightly enhanced strength poses no threat to Homelander. Yes, Hughie can hold his own against some supes while on Temp V, but he still has no chance of taking down Homelander on his own.
The lethal drug gives Hughie the power to teleport, while also giving him the staple Supe ability of rapid self-healing. In light of the V's deadly side effects, Hughie gives up the drug.
While Supe'd up, Butcher may be stronger than most regular Supes, he is still not as strong as Homelander on an even playing field. Not only is Homelander faster and stronger than Billy Butcher but he's also more durable, surviving some of the comics' most brutal injuries.
Thanks to Temp V, a brand new Vought serum he's gotten his hands on, Butcher can now withstand gunshots and shoot lasers from his eyes, which an NRA-obsessed supe named Gunpowder learns the hard way.
In Herogasm #3, he is sexually assaulted by Black Noir when the Boys infiltrated the titular event.
Powers under V24
Superhuman Strength: Hughie demonstrated an incredible level of strength. He punched through the torso of a Russian soldier with relative ease and minimal discomfort. He was also shown to have punched A-Train with a sufficient amount of force to stagger him, much to A-Train's astonishment.
Kimiko also forms tight friendships with Hughie and Starlight. Though she isn't always a fan of her powers, she never hesitates to use them to protect the people she cares for. Kimiko is the strongest hero of The Boys, with heightened levels of superhuman strength, durability, speed, and reflexes.
Unlike his big brother from another missing mother, Jack Quaid's Hughie has only taken four V-24 hits - Russia, Crimson Countess, Herogasm, and Mindstorm.
During his championship, Mother's Milk discovered the powers afforded to him thanks to the Compound V — these included superhuman strength, agility, stamina and durability. Not long after accidentally using these powers to kill someone, he was approached by Billy Butcher and joined the Boys.
Hughie unleashed his powers during a confrontation with some Russian guards who were about to shoot down Mother's Milk. In the clash, Hughie ran to save his friend's life with an extraordinary speed.
Most supes are rightfully too scared to raise a hand against Homelander. The only person we've seen that may stand a chance against him is his young son, Ryan Butcher. But until that boy grows up and gets a handle on his powers, Homelander is far, far, and away the most powerful being alive.
Yup, Soldier Boy is Homelander's biological father. Suddenly all these daddy issues make a lot more sense. This character element isn't from the original The Boys comics, but was something Kripke and the writer's room came up with for the show.
A-Train is determined to maintain his status as the fastest man alive. As a result, he uses the drug Compound V to further amp up his powers. This leads to his downfall as he later suffers from a heart attack, ultimately being the reason for him getting kicked out of The Seven.
The Boys season 3, episode 5 confirms that, as a direct result of Soldier Boy's energy wave, Kimiko's Compound-V powers have stopped working.
Powers and abilities
In the comics, Black Noir is a long-time member of the Seven, almost always shown in silhouette with his face obscured. His powers include super strength and supposed skills as a pilot. He is stronger than even Homelander; Mother's Milk states he can "[...] bench a dozen Mack trucks".
Psychological. Brain Damage: Despite his healing factor, Black Noir can still find difficulty in healing brain damage. During his fight with Soldier Boy, he received extreme head trauma which would end up causing a variety of mental problems, including: Amnesia, loss of speech, hallucinations and infantilization.
Noir's animated animal pals get him to face his Soldier Boy fears by re-creating the event that made him so completely terrified of Soldier Boy in the first place, a day when Soldier Boy beat him up after he stood up to him, as well as the nearly fatal attack Soldier Boy made on Noir the day he led Payback in ...
