Despite knowing Lalo Salamanca is alive and well in Better Call Saul, Kim lets Jimmy believe otherwise.
Kim also confesses she knew Lalo was alive and didn't tell Saul because she didn't want them to stop going after Howard. Her decision, then, ultimately led to Howard's death.
And when Jimmy says it to her, it's loaded, it's desperate. And when Kim explains why she hid the Lalo-is-alive news from him, she gets really honest and says she didn't want to dismantle the scheme because then they'd break up and she was having too much fun. The chicanery was the glue holding them together.
Lalo died smiling as a nod to the maniacal personality he carried throughout life, but also to stress the satisfaction he derived from having been right about Gus. The familiar, creepy smirk was one final act of rebellion. Even in his most painful moment, he refused to let Gus see a glimmer of defeat on his face.
The ultracompetent attorney who married Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), the man most likely to bring out the shadier side of her character, never appears in Breaking Bad, which led some viewers to assume she would die before Saul finished its run. But as Monday's series finale confirmed, Kim Wexler lives on.
She wrote a new one trying to say nice things that maybe would make Jimmy grieve in a normal way. When Jimmy didn't seem to care about the letter, Kim was racked with guilt and that's why she wound up crying.
Despite Kim and Jimmy's unconditional love for each other, Kim left him and Albuquerque after one of their schemes went horribly wrong, causing her to believe that they were bad for everyone around them. She subsequently retired permanently from her law career, and divorced Jimmy later that year.
After Bolsa and Gus visit Hector and promise him vengeance for Lalo's supposed death, Gus realizes from Hector's demeanor that Lalo is still alive. Now anticipating a revenge attack by Lalo, Gus has Mike arrange for around-the-clock guards for his home and businesses.
Up to this point, Gus is portrayed as the smartest person on the show, matched only by Walter White in Breaking Bad. In spite of this, Lalo is able to believably outmaneuver him at nearly every turn.
Because of the rivalry between Gus and Hector, Lalo becomes dedicated to disrupting Gus' legitimate restaurant business Los Pollos Hermanos and Lavandería Brillante, as well as his reputation with the cartel. Unlike his other rivals such as Walter White, Gus was highly fearful of Lalo due to his cunning and resilience.
With Kim's encouragement, Jimmy started a solo practice after HHM decided against hiring him as an associate. During the period leading up to the events of Better Call Saul, Kim and Jimmy are shown to have developed a close personal relationship, which eventually turns romantic.

Well, thankfully we now know that she is indeed alive in the post-Breaking Bad world of Jimmy McGill's new alias Gene Takavic. In 'Waterworks', we see that Kim now works at a sprinkler manufacturer in Florida, and she gets a call from 'Gene' after all these years.
She cancels her own law license, packs her bags, and leaves Saul for an unknown destination. “She's saying, 'There's no way back for what you and I have become. We hurt other people,'” Seehorn told Entertainment Weekly.

When the assassins burst in, Lalo killed all but one of them, letting the survivor leave to tell the tale. He then realized that Nacho wasn't among the victims and that he had been betrayed by someone he had just vouched for to his boss.

Kim Wexler's ending is unique in the Breaking Bad universe, as she is one of the few characters that actually get a semi-happy ending.
Eventually, Kim fell from grace along with Jimmy as she entered work in the criminal underworld, slowly transforming into a vindicitve and deceitful businesswoman. Kim became highly manipulative to the extent of having the ability to develop highly cunning schemes for her and Saul's benefit.
Odenkirk's filming the final season was unexpectedly halted in July 2021 when he collapsed on the series' New Mexico set after suffering a heart attack.
