He realizes his decision to banish
Soon may I hear and see him. In Act 4 Scene 7 When Lear is finally reunited with Cordelia he redeems himself by fully apologizing for his actions towards her and his subsequent death is therefore even more tragic. Cordelia's death finally hastens the demise of her father first to madness then death.
Lear says publicly that he loved Cordelia more than his other daughters and hoped to spend most of his retirement with her. This suggests that the sisters already know that Cordelia is their father's favourite, which may have affected their relationships in the past.
Her unwillingness to exaggerate her feelings enrages Lear and he banishes her forever. He divides his country between his elder daughters and their husbands. On learning that Cordelia will no longer inherit anything from Lear, the Duke of Burgundy withdraws his proposal of marriage.
The poor decision to banish the daughter that adores him most and give the kingdom to his disloyal daughters made him lose everything. As a result, at the end of the play, Lear is left regretting his handling of the situation with Cordelia.
Upon discovering that his beloved daughter has died, Lear dies of grief. Generations of readers have found the ending of King Lear unbearably sad. For more than a century it was considered too tragic to perform.
But as early as the end of act 2, Lear has come to a full realization that he has made a terrible mistake in entrusting himself to Goneril and Regan, and even earlier (act 1, scene 4) has realized enough to strike his own head: “O Lear, Lear, Lear!
His two older daughters, Goneril and Regan, offer poetic speeches but his youngest and favourite daughter Cordelia refuses, declaring 'I love your majesty / According to my bond, no more nor less'. Lear is angry and disowns Cordelia, giving her share of the kingdom to her sisters' husbands to divide between them.
Unlike her father and sisters, Cordelia is able to differentiate love from property. Feeling outraged and humiliated that Cordelia will not publicly lavish love on him, Lear banishes Cordelia from the kingdom and disinherits her. The Earl of Kent objects to her treatment, and is subsequently banished as well.
9–11). This blissful vision, however, is countered by the terrible despair that Lear evokes at Cordelia's death: “Thou'lt come no more, / Never, never, never, never, never.” (5.3. 306–307). Yet, despite his grief, Lear expires in a flash of utterly misguided hope, thinking that Cordelia is coming back to life.
This fleeting moment of familial happiness makes the devastating finale of King Lear that much more cruel, as Cordelia, the personification of kindness and virtue, becomes a literal sacrifice to the heartlessness of an apparently unjust world.
He believes Cordelia loves him most, so he sets aside the largest third of his kingdom for her. However, the event does not go the way Lear planned. Cordelia does not make flattering speeches. Lear wants Cordelia to talk to him in the flattering way everyone else does, and when she refuses, he is angry.
Lear curses Goneril
He curses her never to have a child or if she does, that it make her life a misery so that she understands how it feels to have an ungrateful child.
Lear sees Cordelia's reply as rejection; in turn, he disowns Cordelia, saying that she will now be "a stranger to my heart and me" (I. 1.114). King Lear then divides his kingdom between Goneril and Regan, giving each an equal share.
Kent tells Lear he is insane to reward the flattery of his older daughters and disown Cordelia, who loves him more than her sisters do. Lear turns his anger on Kent, banishing him from the kingdom and telling him that he must be gone within six days.
Lear does not recognize Cordelia's sincerity. He is outraged and eventually banishes Cordelia and renounces her as his daughter.
Cordelia sacrificed herself so that Mallory could rise as Supreme, going back in time and killing Michael before he could come into his own as the ender of days. But unbeknownst to the witches, another Antichrist was born to take his place—to Timothy and Emily, the lovers seen in Outpost 3.
But Edmund has other plans, as he makes clear after Lear and Cordelia are led to prison. Edmund orders his officer to stage Cordelia's death as a suicide. Without hesitation, the officer accepts Edmund's orders, seemingly unconcerned about killing the king and his daughter.
She remains loyal to Lear despite his cruelty toward her, forgives him, and displays a mild and forbearing temperament even toward her evil sisters, Goneril and Regan.
It is now becoming clear to everyone that Lear has made a mistake in handing over his power to Goneril and Regan. Lear's major error is that, in stepping down from the throne, he has also given up all of his formal authority to those who do not actually love him.
The tragic flaw in King Lear is Lear's pride and arrogance. His pride forces him to make a terrible judgment call in disinheriting Cordelia, only because she finds hard to enamour him with lavish praise. He misjudges her inability to her lack of love and this sets into motion Lear's tragic end.
Lear's basic flaw at the beginning of the play is that he values appearances above reality. He wants to be treated as a king and to enjoy the title, but he doesn't want to fulfill a king's obligations of governing for the good of his subjects.

In his retelling of the rule of King Lear, Shakespeare rejected the happy ending found in the histories that were his sources. He gave the play one of his bleakest endings, with both Lear and his daughter Cordelia dying. This resolution shocked and dismayed audiences at the end of the 17th century.
The moral of King Lear is the idea that a person's actions speak louder than words alone. It is very easy to say one thing and do another. It is far more difficult, yet carries far more weight, when a person backs up what they say with what they do.
