Shortly thereafter, he reconciles with Lexie, but is delighted when Callie discovers she is pregnant with his child. Lexie, however, is dismayed and angered by the news and leaves Mark once again. Mark takes quickly to fatherhood when his daughter, Sofia, is born.
Lexie and Mark's happiness once again comes to a halt when she discovers that during their break-up, Mark had unintentionally impregnated Callie, and she ends their relationship once more because she is not ready for children.
When Mark told Lexie at the end of the episode that he got Callie pregnant, she walked out on him after pointing out that Mark was doing this to her for a second time.
When Dr. Fields brings in a very sensitive fetal heart monitor, Callie, Mark, and Arizona get to see and hear the baby's heart beating. Arizona gets excited about the baby and moves back in with Callie. Mark tells Lexie he got Callie pregnant, and she walks out on him.
During Season 5 Chyler Leigh was pregnant. Since it wouldn't be right for her character Lexie Grey, the writers and directors managed to hide it through baggy scrubs and coats. The writers did have her stress eating as a way to give some sort of reason for her gaining weight.
Lexie discovers she's pregnant, and has a surgical abortion. Instead of using her own name at the clinic, she uses her friend's name, Pearl Warren, and when Pearl finds out, it confirms to her that Lexie isn't her real friend. Lexie retreats to Pearl and her mother Mia's apartment to recover from the abortion.
Chyler Leigh became pregnant with her third child and was visibly showing towards the end of production. As her character, Lexie, was not pregnant, shots of Leigh tended to be from above the chest, or her belly obscured by a chart, desk or lab coat.
Despite all of Mark's flaws, Lexie always knew that she loved Mark. At the end of season eight, she strikes up the courage to tell him, even though they're dating other people.
She begins a relationship with Jackson but ends because he realizes she is in love with Mark. Mark was dating a doctor from another hospital, which made Lexie jealous. Lexie tries to tell Mark she still loves him, and after many fails, she does it, but he doesn't respond.
Season 8, Episode 22...
Obviously, Meredith and Derek are the go-to couple that fans associate with the show. But an underrated relationship that never got to live up to its full potential was the one between Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan, two characters that can be defined as each other's true love and soulmates.
MARK SLOAN
Eventually, Callie revealed to her that she was pregnant with Mark's child. Arizona agreed to raise the child with her.
"So you can't die, okay? You can't die. Because we're supposed to end up together. We're meant to be." And then she passed away, with Mark closing her eyes.
10. Season 8, Episode 24: Mark Tells Lexie That He Loves Her One Last Time. The season eight finale more or less confirms that anything terrible can happen on Grey's Anatomy. On the off chance that you forgot, it's none other than the soul-crushing plane crash episode.
The big age difference
The actors playing Mark and Lexie have only a nine-year age difference between them; however, the characters have a very marginal sixteen-year age gap. Mark Sloan was born in 1968 while Lexie Grey arrived in the world in 1984.
After breaking up with Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), Callie moved in with Mark and they had a short fling that resulted in Callie becoming pregnant with Mark's child.
In the end, Mark admitted that he had always been in love with Lexie.
Mark Sloan and Lexie Grey - Grey's Anatomy
We appreciated that the hospital was named after Mark and Lexie, but an onscreen funeral to pay tribute to two major characters felt necessary. But then again, countless people have died on the show and it's rare to witness any funerals at all.
Sloan was Mark's pregnant eighteen-year-old daughter who he learned about in season six of Grey's. Lexie didn't want to be a grandmother at the age of twenty-six, but Mark chose Sloan and the baby over Lexie, which was the right thing to do even if Sloan did eventually give up the baby and disappear.
Chyler Leigh decided to leave 'Grey's Anatomy' of her own accord. Many characters are notoriously killed off of Grey's due to differences with production or controversies with the actors. However, Chyler Leigh was not one of those people. She decided to leave to spend more time with her family.
Mark Sloan and Lexie Grey
It remains tragically off until the very end. After years of their on again-off again relationship, Lexie works up enough courage to give her big “I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't breathe” speech to Mark to finally win him back, only to die days later in a plane crash.
Rhimes later justified the decision of killing Mark instead of letting him go in a different way by saying she “had to do what was right for the integrity of the character”, and this way Lexi and Mark “get to be together, in a way”.
3 Ellen Pompeo — Hidden (Grey's Anatomy)
Though Meredith Grey went through two full-term pregnancies in the beloved Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo's real pregnancy during the filming of season 6 was kept hidden. Luckily for the actress, her character practically lives in scrubs, operating gowns, and a white coat.
Lexie had cuts on her arms and Cristina sent her away to plastics. Alex told Cristina that a famous doctor was at the hospital to do a heart transplant, and he was going to piggyback on it. Cristina wondered why she wasn't on it. Callie said she didn't know why Hahn was gone and didn't want to talk about it.
In contrast to other cases on Grey's Anatomy where actors left due to behind-the-scenes issues, Chyler Leigh decided it was time to end Lexie's arc because she wanted to spend more time with her family. Burke comes back in season 10 episode 22. He gives Cristina his hospital in Switzerland, as he's retiring.
