M'Baku and the Jabari tribe are the isolated Wakandan mountain community that shuns the use of Vibranium. Their costumes are loosely based on the dress of the Dogon tribe of Mali & West Africa.
M'Baku's tribe worships the gorilla god Hanuman, so his beliefs make him unfit for the mantle of the Bast-worshipping Black Panther. This means that, although worthy, he can't technically become the next Black Panther due to his religion.
Unlike the other Wakandan tribes, which incorporate Vibranium-based technology into everyday life, the Jabari outright reject the use of Vibranium altogether, adhering staunchly to a more primitive lifestyle. Because of this, the tribe has a strong tradition of woodworking and agriculture.
The Jabari live off a sacred Jabari wood that can go “toe-to-toe” with vibranium. Everything in Jabari land is made out of this sacred wood that can essentially resist a Vibranium sword or a Vibranium weapon because it's this tempered, strong, treated wood.
Their drummers were able to counteract the power of the Resurrection Altar being used to manipulate the King and his dead lover Nanti, allowing the Jabari warrior Mamadou Fall to best the ruler in ritual combat and become the first Black Panther of Jabari origin.
