The researchers noted that only 6 percent of males and 6 percent of females chose the red hair to be most attractive. "Red hair was the least common hair color of the population and all individuals preferred it the least when compared to brunette and blonde hair colors.
Most women think brunette hair is the sexiest, as 25% of those polled favoured this option. Womens' second preference is blonde, which was voted as the sexiest hair colour by 19.6% of women. Again, red took third spot, accounting for 11.8% of womens' votes.
Brunette was clearly the hair color perceived as most attractive, with blonde as the second most attractive, and red as the least attractive. Figure 1 summarizes these results.
Which do you prefer: Blondes or brunettes? Redheads, perhaps? Well, whichever you personally find most endearing, here's a bit of interesting news: Men apparently prefer blonde women to their darker or red-haired counterparts…at least according to a new study published in The Journal of Social Psychology.
Consider Your Undertone
“If a client has a cooler skin undertone, no matter how dark or fair, generally a warmer red that reflects golden or orange tones is more suitable.” So if you have rosy undertones, you should go for coppers, orangey reds, auburn and strawberry blonde shades.
"A red that's auburn with a balance of warm and cool will work for medium skin with both warm and cool undertones," says Freidman. She also explains that people with medium skin tones are lucky, as they have the widest range of red tones they can work with.
Reds with orange hues look good on people with warm undertones. Red Hot Red is a great example of a bright red with a bit of an orange base. So, if you love gold and Marilyn Monroe - Red Hot Red is a sure bet. Blue-toned reds are good for people with cool undertones.
Most Attractive Hair Colour According to Men
According to the survey, the majority of men (42%) found blonde hair to be the most attractive. This was followed by brunette (36%), red (16%), black (5%), and gray (1%).
According to Health Magazine, redheads can produce their own vitamin D when exposed to low levels of light. 4. You may not need as much pain medication. The gene responsible for red hair (MC1R) also releases a hormone that is similar to endorphins which limit the feeling of pain.
The trick is to finding the right red for your skin tone. “Freckles, pale skin and light eyes work best with strawberry blonde and copper reds. Darker eyes with cooler skin tones work best with deeper true reds and violet tones,” Rick explains.
Guéguen cites previous research which found over 80 percent of those surveyed express a dislike for people with red hair.
The general rule of thumb is that cool skin undertones look most flattering with cool hair color, while warm skin undertones look best with warm hair color. This way, matching hair color to your skin tone accentuates your complexion and brings out your features.
Attractiveness and gene-mixing
It is also possible that both red hair and freckled skin are viewed as less attractive because they are both recessive traits. This means that the traits are easily covered up by the effects of other genes.
CNN recently shared research that men are most likely to prefer women with long hair past the shoulders. Guys were asked to rate the same women's faces based upon short, medium-length, plus super long locks. Males rated ladies with longer hair as more attractive.
Generally, these colours will make anyone appear older: black, cool dark brown, fiery red, yellow blonde, mousy blonde and dark grey. There's a common opinion that platinum blonde and silver hair dye age you, but we don't believe so.
A general observation across experiments was that straight hair was perceived as younger, healthier, and more attractive than wavy hair and darker shades (medium copper and brown) were perceived more positively than blonde hair.
Having red hair and blue eyes is the rarest hair/eye color combination possible. The odds of a person having both of those recessive traits is around 0.17%. Instead, most redheads have brown, hazel or green eyes, according to Medical Daily.
A redhead is a person with red hair. Although sometimes it looks more like orange, “orangehead” isn't a thing. Only about one percent of the entire population is a real redhead. In England, a redhead is “ginger” haired.
Redheads might have less damage/signs of aging
This means that there is a reduced risk of sun damage and early signs of aging in the skin of redheads. This means our skin stays youthful for longer, helping us appear younger.
Some men prefer natural curls, while others like sleek and shiny straight hair. Some are drawn to longer styles, while others like the edginess of a shorter cut. How a woman wears her hair can greatly impact how attractive she appears to others.
While men were 1.4 times more likely than women to wish their partner had a different eye color, both genders favored blue eyes. Surprisingly, green, brown, and hazel were more preferred on a partner than gray eyes which respondents had previously considered the most attractive.
The Color Red Symbolizes Passion and Desire
Perhaps not surprisingly, red also symbolizes passion, love, and desire. These associations could explain why people wearing red are consistently rated as more attractive by the opposite sex.
Any skin tone can wear red, but make sure you pick the right shade for your skin tone. What color accessories should I pair with a red dress? Typically, you would want to avoid red accessories when wearing red, so as to avoid wearing too much.
Ah, red. This classic shade complements every skin tone on the spectrum, and it's great street style photographer bait—if you're into that.
