One such injury led to the surprising twist in the match against Apollo Creed at the end of Rocky II. In the film, Rocky spends much of the run-time reluctant to return to boxing because he has a detached retina.
After returning home, Rocky and Adrian discover they are bankrupt after Paulie was fooled into signing a "power of attorney" over to Rocky's accountant, who squandered all of his money on real estate deals gone sour and failed to pay Rocky's taxes over the previous six years.
Though Rocky famously ends with the titular boxer losing to Apollo Creed, the result is actually far more favorable for the Italian Stallion than it may seem. Despite Apollo Creed retaining his title, his victory over Balboa still comes as something of a black mark on his record.

Rocky Balboa
In autumn of 2001, Adrian discovered that she was dying from ovarian cancer. She underwent chemotherapy, but it was not enough to save her life. Adrian died peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2002, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her family along her side, aged 51.
Creed II. Paulie doesn't appear in this film due to his death but his gravestone is still seen when Rocky visits Adrian's gravestone again at the beginning of the film.
Stallone understandably feels today that Apollo's character had much more to give the Rocky franchise had Creed survived his fight with Drago. Instead, Stallone used Apollo's death as the catalyst for Balboa to seek revenge against Drago, although Rocky IV's USA vs.
Dixon breaks his hand in the second round of the fight, but he fights through, taking all that Rocky has to offer and wins the fight by split decision after 10 rounds. Dixon earned the respect of the media, fans and proved that he can battle through adversity.
Initially, Rocky didn't want to fight Creed. However, when he learns that the match is paying out $150,000 -a life-changing amount of money for him – it changes his career and life forever.
