Fleas can quickly infest your home. Fleas can lay up to 1300 eggs within 50 days,4 but Simparica Trio kills them before they can even lay eggs. In studies it started killing within four hours, and achieved 100% effectiveness in eight hours.
Breaks the flea life cycle
Simparica kills adult fleas before they can lay eggs. In a lab experiment, dogs were infested with fleas and then treated with Simparica. One day after treatment, no viable eggs were produced by fleas. This effect continued through the entire observation period of 35 days.
Products for Eliminating Flea Eggs in the Home
Many pet parents choose to use an environmental insect growth regulator to stop fleas from developing. Sprays with IGR, such as Sentry Home household flea and tick spray for pets, are great for killing flea eggs in your home.
Simparica flea and tick medicine are proven to be 96.9 percent effective at killing fleas and ticks in dogs, and it starts working in three to eight hours after the first tablet. If your dog has a flea infestation, the medication will kill the existing fleas and prevent new infestations on your pet.
Oral Pills
Oral insecticides typically target either flea eggs or adult fleas, but not both, so you may have to choose which part of the lifecycle to target and eradicate. Flea pills work very quickly, beginning in as little as 30 minutes. Currently, there are no oral medications that kill ticks.
Often even after treating with a suitable flea treatment you will still see flea's on your animal. However, this does not mean that the treatment has not worked or that the fleas are immune – the reasons are fairly simple: Fleas are hatching in your home and re-infecting your pet.
Use Adams Plus Flea & Tick Spray or Adams Plus Flea & Tick Collars with an insect growth regulator (IGR) designed to kill flea eggs and their larvae. The spray is effective for up to two months, and the collars are effective for up to seven months.
Simparica Trio has not demonstrated efficacy against whipworms or tapeworms in dogs or puppies.
Simparica (sarolaner) is a chewable, once a month preventative that can provide continuous protection against fleas, ticks, and tick borne pathogens.
If your dog is constantly being reinfested with fleas after treatment, it is most likely there is an environmental infestation in or around your house. The adult fleas we see on pets represent only 5% of the total population. The other 95% are immature stages in the environment.
The methoprene and pyriproxyfen-impregnated collars are virtually 100% effective at preventing new flea eggs from hatching for at least 6 months (essentially season-long) on both dogs and cats.
The most effective ones contain ingredients such as permethrin, imidacloprid, or dinotefuran that are lethal to the biting adult stage, and an “insect growth regulator” (e.g., methoprene, pyriproxyfen) that halts development of flea eggs and larvae.
Salt dries out fleas just like diatomaceous earth, but it's less messy, and unlike diatomaceous earth, it doesn't pose a respiratory threat when used indoors. Borax powder is also effective against fleas and their larvae.
As you can see, both Nexgard and Simparica are extremely good and effective flea and tick treatment and they do not have a major difference between them. But that being said, Simparica does kill an additional tick specie and is relatively faster in eliminating fleas and ticks.
The cumulative deaths reported to April 2021 ranged from a high of 2,627 (24%) for fluralaner (Bravecto®) to 726 (2.8%) for afoxolaner (NexGard®) and 412 (12.7%) for sarolaner (Simparica®).

Simparica protects against more varieties of ticks than Bravecto does and also offers a variation that protects against worms. Bravecto is effective for three times longer (12 weeks), while Simparica must be reapplied monthly. Each medication will require a prescription from your vet.
Why can I still see fleas on my dog after giving Simparica? Fleas can live in a variety of areas outside of your home as well as on other dogs that your dog may encounter. Simparica provides flea protection that works fast and lasts, so any newly arrived fleas will be killed.
If you give your dog or cat the flea and tick preventatives Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica, or Credelio, the FDA wants you to be aware that these medications may cause neurological issues like stumbling, seizures, and twitching in your pet.
Both products are safe for dogs when following directions and have been approved by the FDA to treat and prevent flea and tick infestations. However, unlike Bravecto, Simparica has yet to be approved for use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.
When inspecting your pup, it's easy to confuse flea eggs for dandruff. The main difference is that flea eggs are oval-shaped rather than flat. But because eggs fall off their hosts easily, you may not see many on your pet. Still, you can use a flea comb to get eggs (as well as adult fleas and flea feces) off your pup.
What Do Flea Eggs Look Like On A Dog? If you can see them, flea eggs on a dog will often appear as tiny white specks, small white flecks, or tiny grains of salt. They're usually clustered together.
On dogs, they're more often found around the hips. Flea eggs aren't sticky, so they'll soon fall from the animal's fur. The eggs accumulate in areas where pets rest, namely carpeting.
